Many fans who have been with MBLAQ since debut certainly remember the mini documentary Making The Artist that began airing on GOMTV back on 26 May 2010. As much as I love MBLAQ in full on variety, I also enjoy a more behind the scenes type program that follows their day-to-day activities and in the case of Making The Artist, follow them as they prepared for a comeback with the release of their second mini album Y. By May of 2010, G.O had already MC-ed the M Countdown show for a couple of months and had a strong presence on the airwaves with his many radio program appearances. In my opinion, he was settling in nicely as a host. G.O has a wonderful presence on camera and is equally steady and charming on the radio. With his intelligence, wit and magnetism, I have often felt he would be an amazing host of his own variety or reality show, as well as a formidable disc jockey on the airwaves. Therefore, it is no surprise how comfortable he was talking about the business at hand on the set that day, as well as being the interviewee along with leader Seung Ho during a segment of Making The Artist.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 653
Happy December everyone!! Now that we are in the final month of 2017, the reality of G.O’s return is really settling in, isn’t it?! It is funny how at certain milestones of this countdown I would literally feel so excited. I remember how cranked up I was when G.O completed 100 days and now here we are with only 78 days remaining. I am really finding it hard to contain the excitement. I am sure you are feeling it, too. Speaking of feeling it, I am going back into the temptation vault for today’s Fan-Camming Friday offering choosing the sexy intensity of Y, because . . . why not? I think my wandering into G.O sexy land as of late is due to how independent and self-assured he has been this past year of his service, and how he is settling into that independence. There is something truly sexy about a confident man. And with Y, there was a bounty of confidence that oozed from every performance. I cannot help but revisit it. So then, I offer some focused cam from the M Countdown taping on 3 June 2010 which happened to be the day MBLAQ took home the first place trophy with Y, their first win on MCD.
The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 596
If G.O asked you which one of his English cover songs you wanted him to either sing again and/or record but said you could only choose one, which one would you choose? That is such a difficult question as he has covered so many, and covered them well. I know I would have a difficult time making a choice. Really difficult. But I think if I had to choose just one, I would ask for Wildflower. Yes, even over Hurricane and any one of the other beautiful Eric Benét ballads he has covered. Even over Song For Your Tears which you all know is my kryptonite. Maybe it is because Wildflower has stood the test of time as an iconic ballad that has been successfully covered since it was written back in the 1970’s. It is gentle, melodic and the lyrics are simply beautiful. And think about it, which one of the many English songs has G.O consistently covered? Yes, Wildflower. He covered it as early as his Tykeys days, and as recently as January 2015. Clearly, it is special to him. Today, it makes its return in Vocal Virtuosity form, and a mere 27 seconds at that. Pure vocal heaven.
The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 569
Beauty is not caused. It is. ~Emily Dickinson
I cannot deny it, nor will I ever deny that there are days when G.O pushes me past the brink of fangirl reason straight into fangirl frenzy. Fangirl frenzy. I know each fangirl is unique. I am a later model fangirl due to my advanced age and delayed entry into the fangirl arena. However, there are moments when G.O has made me forget all about my age, fangirl parameters and decorum transporting me back to my teens awkward and trembling with excitement as I watch him perform. I have talked about G.O’s subtle yet powerful stage presence. His talent will always make him shine even on a stage filled with dense choreography, pyrotechnics and other people. And when G.O wears white his power and presence seems to become even more unmistakeable. The KBS event in Gwangju on 14 October 2010 is a wonderful example, escorts me into fangirl frenzy mode, and is my choice for this Fan-Camming Friday offering.
The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 560
Even though it is not a Thursday, I have decided on a throwback moment for Day 560. Sure, I probably could have waited until tomorrow (Thursday), but when you think about it, every post of this countdown series is pretty much a throwback moment with the exception of the multiple survival reports and updates G.O himself has given us during his service that have been included here in this series. So every day, minus those, are throwback days. Today, I head back to a moment just prior to the release of MBLAQ’s second mini album, Y and G.O’s video message wherein he asks us to find and re-attach our necks which he is confident have fallen off during the long wait for MBLAQ’s Y album. Haaahaahaha….so cheeky!
The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 485
Where do begin for this Fan-Camming Friday? I had my heart set on one cam and then became totally undone when I found a different cam for a different song from the same show. It was then that I was promptly reminded that the 13-year old squealing fangirl that I thought had matured somewhat and settled into the fact that she was residing in a not so young anymore middle-aged woman, returned with a boisterous vengeance. It has been awhile since I watched a cam and screamed at the monitor the entire time but this is exactly what happened when I watched G.O rip into the fierce, flirtatious and fervid Oh Yeah back on 13 June 2010 in Iksan.
The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 427
When shuffling through your MBLAQ collection do you ever come to the Y album and get stuck there for awhile? I do. The reason I get stuck on Y is mostly because of the dreamy ballad Last Luv. Oh the feels that song gives me. But today, I want to focus a Vocal Virtuosity moment towards MBLAQ’s 8 June 2010 performance of What U Want on MNet’s The Pub Only You Concert. I am going to be a bit brazen here because I really wish to focus on the last minute or so of the performance, for obvious reasons.
The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 345
It’s Friday!! Happy Friday all and welcome to another installment of Fan-Camming Friday here on the Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge. Sometimes Fridays are fluffy. You know, the end of the week to wind down and decompress – quiet, peaceful. Others are fierce. The work week is over, the weekend has arrived and it is time to get our fun on! Today’s Fan-Camming Friday is fierce in the guise of well, not necessarily fluff, but more like a collision of demure G.O with a sensually masculine G.O in the form of MBLAQ’s aggressive dance track, Y.
The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 271
With the dynamic of three that is now MBLAQ, I often think about how older songs that we have not yet heard them sing would sound today. Has anyone else compiled a list like I have? One of my top requests to hear real time now would be the breathtaking ballad from their second mini album, Last Luv. Have you listened to it lately? I think it is a perfect song to add to the G.O Vocal Virtuosity section of the Countdown. His voice may not have been the one to open or close the song but was indeed the abundant and delicious main course that may have you asking . . . hmmm, do I really need an appetizer or dessert?
The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 176
While MBLAQ was still busy promoting their second mini album Y, Malaysian promotion, tour and event management company M.E Malaysia caught up with the gregarious bunch for a little getting to know you one-on-one session in a Gangnam-gu cafe late one night in July 2010. Even though they were exhausted from their hectic promotion schedule, the interview was playful and yielded some gorgeous pictures and one very cute video message to the Malaysian fans.
