The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 627

As we inch towards G.O’s final 100 days of service, I cannot help but feel a sense of urgency to cheer both him and his fans on to the finish line. What theme song could be more appropriate than his solo song from the Mr. 아이돌 OST, Believe? It also serves as an equally wonderful addition to the Vocal Virtuosity files.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 158

G.O’s 니가 떠난 그 자리 [The Place You Left] from the Mourning Grave OST is perhaps one of the most well-crafted, written, composed and arranged OST songs he has ever written. Have you listened to it recently? I have revisited it for the purposes of this post and have subsequently had it on repeat since.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 134

When music chose G.O it was most likely with the understanding that he would not be limited to only singing. It was going to be full immersion which included writing, composing and arranging. Thankfully, there are many avenues an artist of his caliber can take when music becomes his life force. The OST is indeed one of those avenues. And ok. it may have been helpful that G.O’s bandmate was cast in Iris II, but I believe 바보같 은나 [What A Fool I Am] would have landed on its OST (or any other, for that matter) because not only is it perfect OST material, it is simply a well-written song.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 131

A Lucky Day captured some of the most artistic and beautiful early pictures of G.O. I find that I can never seem to share just one.  Here are two from the exciting era.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 122

Would you agree that having a song on a drama OST and also showing up on the show constitutes a double bonus? And, wouldn’t it be made that much sweeter if that song was one you wrote and composed? Indeed. Such was the case for G.O and Mir’s 알고있었어 [I Already Knew]. They hit the trifecta for Channel A’s drama, K-pop 최강 서바이벌 [Strongest K-pop Star Survival], by appearing in the show, having a song on the OST, and being the writers and composers of that song.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 111

Having the opportunity to write a little something every day about this talented guy affords me the opportunity to learn something new. For example, I did not know that G.O’s first solo OST song was his Believe from the Korean drama, Mr. Idol, released in October 2011.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 85

G.O and Mir. It had to be fate, destiny or written somewhere that these two gentle spirits were going to cross paths and become one very powerful rap-vocal OST duo. They released two songs in 2012 and one in 2013 for three different original soundtracks. I think they are due for another one, don’t you ~ well, once G.O completes his service. For Day 85, I want to revisit my fave of the OST work exclusive to G.O and Mir, 천국이니까 [Because It’s Heaven/Winter Rain] from the Korean drama, The King of Dramas.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 73

A sweet seventy-three days into G.O’s military service and I am finally revisiting some of his amazing OST work! In this series I have only written about one so far, his Numbness from the Madame Antoine OST and that was 70 posts ago!!! Admittedly, I am still trying to get my footing here with these daily posts and I am trying to be judicious in offering a little something from all he has done. Likewise, I am trying to make it interesting, but sometimes my heart takes over and things get wishy-washy. Fair warning, this will be one of those posts because his song from the Doctor Stranger OST, 내일이 안 올 것처럼 [Like Tomorrow Won’t Come] is my favorite of his OST songs, and probably one of the most touching, emotional and beautiful love ballads he has ever sung…as well as also had a hand in composing.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 30

The more I revisit the dramas where G.O was cast in minor (but memorable) roles, the more I ache to see him take on a leading role – as in the lead who shows-up-in-every-episode role. And drama gods, if you are listening, please make the drama 20+ episodes in length. Jaebaaaaaal!!!

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 3

Before quietly and graciously saying good-bye, G.O left us with much to hold on to while he is away completing his military service. And while his genuine appreciation for his loving fans is perhaps my favorite of all of the gifts he gives, his golden voice is a treasured gift I am willing to receive time and again.
