The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 379

It is Thursday and my first full day back to reality after a recent trip to Seoul which I find to always be magical even if I am there for no particular reason. Well, truth be told, I actually planned to be there for a couple of reasons. First, I thought Seung Ho would perform through the end of February in his musical Sabita; and second, I kind of wanted to be there to commemorate G.O completing one year of his military service.  I accomplished one so for that my trip was successful! Whenever I leave Seoul, I feel nostalgic. For this 379th day of G.O’s service then, a little Throwback Thursday as I travel way back to May 2010 when MBLAQ hit the stage in Changwon (G.O’s birthplace) for the Miss Korea 2010 Pageant to share some photographic moments captured of our charismatic main vocal.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 378

I am sure all A+ can agree that MBLAQ’s gentle pop song homage to their fans, You’re My + is one of their best, and for various reasons. For me, it is one of those MBLAQ songs where I can hear an audible smile, as it were, in G.O’s voice while he sings. Moreover, in this song, G.O gets plenty of sing time and when that happens, I always rank it among my favorite group songs. You’re My + is a good choice then to place it firmly in the Vocal Virtuosity category. Yes. And even though I am certain they have performed the song live often, I am choosing a particularly poignant live performance to showcase it: the first stage as a trio at Omiya back in June 2015.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 375

Although I have not given them their just due here during this Countdown series, it is no secret that G.O possesses perhaps one of the loveliest pair of hands bestowed upon a human….ever. There has been much documentation about his very elegant and graceful hands. I may be in a groove with this series with its plethora of sub-categories already in place; but with 356 days remaining, there is always room for one more so I am adding G.O’s Graceful Hands to the mix because there is much proof documenting such and as is evident in this Countdown series (and blog generally), I have no problem praising him, even something as seemingly trivial as admiring his hands! But…they are beautiful.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 363

If you have been following this series (or even my blog in general), you know how very sentimental I am and how I enjoy commemorating special dates, milestones, and memorable moments. Today happens to be one of those days as one year ago today, G.O stepped upon the stage and sang for us one more time before entering military training camp four short days thereafter. It is silly, but for some reason remembering that snowy Valentine’s Day is making me tremendously emotional as I sit down to write. I write through my tears often so it is ok that they fall today. I chose to write a Vocal Virtuosity moment for today as the time is actually quite perfect to revisit G.O’s performance of his incredibly smooth and sweet Play That Song from the I.Callist Vocal Idol Show on 14 February 2016.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 358

Over the past few days I have been giving lots and lots of love to G.O’s past involvement with the neo-soul R&B trio, Tykeys. It is part of his past that I feel was an incredible stepping stone to get him where he is today and not just musically. I think G.O’s time spent with Baek Soo Kyung and Kim Hyun Jung gave him experience and direction that supported and indeed fueled his creativity. He learned about synergy and collaboration which I believe every artist needs, and which he has become keenly adept at. My G.O One Shot for today is a little homage to G.O’s Tykeys stage presence, in .gif form.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 352

It is difficult to come by definitive and clear facts regarding everything there is to know about Tykeys. And I suppose that is all well and fine because what we do have in way of pictures and video prove to me that they were an incredibly talented neo-soul R&B sensation that simply did not get the recognition they deserved. However bad the situation was when things ended for the group, it does not take away from the fact that they gave us some incredible music in one amazing album. For this 352nd day of G.O’s service, (and Fan-Camming Friday day), I share a moment of solo work from those early days. A clip of our soulful crooner backed by a live band singing one of his favorites, Wildflower.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 341

It is without question that G.O can create emotional reaction with his vocals. Whether he sings tenderly or with powerful lamentation, you feel something when he releases the notes. I also concede that the visuals captured of him singing are equally powerful. Much like a painter or sculptor must paint or sculpt the story of his art on a canvas or in stone, a singer must become the canvas of the song which moves through him as he sings. Yes, I will repeat that which I have said over and over, I love the way music moves through G.O. He and his music are an amazing blend of sound and visuals, even when he is simply standing on the stage with a single spotlight illuminating his tender presence. For this G.O One Shot day, some captures of music moving through this brilliant young artist as seen (and felt) during the Blaq% Tour.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 339

I honestly do not believe I could have envisioned a better special stage than the one G.O was given during MBLAQ’s Men In Blaq concert, back in August 2011. From a visual perspective when I watch it, my first thought is always . . . my god, a star was so being born at that moment. The romantic stage backdrop, the soft lights, the elevated platform and G.O’s angelic voice were all breathtaking. G.O’s stage during that tour featured his first digital single, 내 꿈에서라도 [Even In My Dreams], and is the perfect frame and foundation for today’s Vocal Virtuosity moment on this 339th day of our amazing main vocal’s service.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 329

When I first started One Shot days, my entire point of them was to share one picture or one .gif. Over the course of almost one year now (yes……….we are literally closing in one year of G.O’s service being completed), I have bent and stretched and violated my own rules but all with good intention for sometimes one picture is simply not enough. Today, I will stay within the parameters of my One Shot rule book. One picture. One smile. One lovely capture of one handsome and amazing man.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 326

We all must agree that sometimes the suits/clothing style our gorgeous music men in absolute quality had to wear were sometimes a bit extravagant and somewhat loud. I realize that on a stage, images and even the artists themselves must appear larger than life. It is all part of the entertainment process and I understand that completely. Still, I love the easy comfort of button down shirts, some times with a jacket, sometimes not, with dress slacks as seen during Mirror, or those amazing suits our men wore during the Broken era. A quiet sophistication. However, I am not going to deny how fantastic and sexy G.O looked at the Lotte World Public Broadcast show on 25 February 2012 in that vibrant red and black ensemble.
