The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 522

I wanted today to be another Vocal Virtuosity day after hearing One recently. Even though it is a MBLAQ group effort, Mr. Main Vocal proves predominant throughout the song. As you know, when that happens, I like to bring it to the forefront here on the countdown because as much as I adore all of MBLAQ’s music, when my lovely bias takes the vocal helm in a song, it rapidly moves up my fave list. I forgot how feel good One is and how crystalline and powerful G.O’s vocals are throughout the song. Even though I have been diligently searching, I could not find an actual live version or performance. If any of you are aware, please post a link to in the comments section. I did recall however the 13 September 2011 KBS broadcast of The Lord of Magic show wherein our fab five performed a wonderful and remarkably sweet LED light show using One as a backdrop music to the performance.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 518

To me, when an artist wants to use his art to touch the deepest part of people, to make them feel something, that is an act of absolute intimacy. Now before you get all squeamish thinking this post is going to get all PG-13 or R-rated, it will not. I do not mean that kind of intimacy. Most of us are guarded in our emotions and hesitant to let people in, or let people get close. Music though has a way of circumventing those defenses. However, it usually takes a profound piece of music to accomplish it and an artist adept in interpreting such. Without an honest guide who is filled with depth and emotion, music can be come a cacophony of unorganized sound unable to connect with the listener. As you all know, I believe G.O is an honest guide. One filled with depth and emotion who is able to connect with all who will listen.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 512

Ok, I cannot deny that I am completely enamored by G.O’s current focus on living a healthy lifestyle and the way in which it seems to have been infiltrating his recent survival report chat sessions with fans. You will recall his hearty suggestion to take probiotics during one session and most recently, he urged us to add brazil nuts to our diets suggesting that we would reap health benefits immediately. It is impossible to not adore this man and the fact that he wants his A+ nation to be happy and healthy….lol! This all made me start to think about the Real Men episode of MBLAQ’s Idol Manager.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 487

Oh Idol Army, how I have forgotten how playful and entertaining you were! As nonsensical and crazy as the show was, it was nevertheless 16 episodes of getting to know the wonderful and diverse personalities and individual talents of our five fab crew. There are many wonderful moments I could revisit, but for today, I am choosing a moment from the final episode because where there is G.O’s voice, there is Vocal Virtuosity unfolding.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 472

Is it possible to find a Vocal Virtuosity moment during a Korean game show? Absolutely! Back in April 2011, our main vocal man along with leader Seung Ho appeared on 1 vs. 100, a game show that was originally developed by a Dutch-based media company that saw its concept grow worldwide. Along with many other countries, South Korea had its version as well. The basic concept pitted one contestant against a panel consisting of 100 people. If the contestant was able to eliminate the entire 100 by answering questions correctly, he or she would walk away with a large cash prize. Frankly, I am not sure I would be able to answer anything after hearing G.O sing. Even the few bars of 다시 [Again] stun me. However, it makes for a perfect short and sweet Vocal Virtuosity moment for Day 472 and, there is a bonus: he sings with Seung Ho.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 456

Taking this journey back to The Kingdom of the Winds has flooded my heart with emotion. It is the poignancy of G.O’s performance that calls me back over and over again to revisit the moments he spent on the Seoul Arts Center stage. Today I am offering a Vocal Virtuosity moment, but not from the stage. I choose the moment G.O and his co-star from the musical, Go Young Bin visited the Culture Bookmark show, talked about the musical, and performed the haunting 무휼과 호동의 노래 [Muhyul and Hodong’s Song].

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 443

Can there be anything more romantic than the tender gaze of G.O’s eyes during a gentle ballad? Remember when he joined HaHa and Taw on The Show and laced his velvet vocals around their 내 품이 좋다던 사람 [The Person By My Side?] I wrote about it back on Day 177, which seems like ages ago now that we are at the mid-400 days mark. I remember how angelic G.O looked and sounded during that performance. I came across a short fan cam taken during the recording of that segment back on 20 March 2012 and share it as today’s Fan-Camming Friday moment.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 439

The premise was simple – complete an athletic task and the crowd (which was predominately, if not all, comprised of your fan base) would be rewarded for your success. Seems easy, right? Well, it proved to be somewhat challenging ~ albeit entertaining ~ for our fit and fab main vocal man when he had to become a rhythmic gymnast for the day as part of KBS2’s athletic variety program Let’s Go! Dream Team.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 427

When shuffling through your MBLAQ collection do you ever come to the Y  album and get stuck there for awhile? I do. The reason I get stuck on Y is mostly because of the dreamy ballad Last Luv. Oh the feels that song gives me. But today, I want to focus a Vocal Virtuosity moment towards MBLAQ’s 8 June 2010 performance of What U Want on MNet’s The Pub Only You Concert. I am going to be a bit brazen here because I really wish to focus on the last minute or so of the performance, for obvious reasons.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 396

Before I add any G.O-inspired episode excerpts from Kim Soo Ro’s 명문대 특별반 엠블랙 [Special Class In An Elite University] to the countdown, I just want to enjoy the promotional pictures that were being circulated back in July 2010 when it was announced that MBLAQ would be joining Soo Ro on his program. It is Sunday and I don’t want to over do it!! Studious looking (once again those eyeglass frames – I think I am a little bit obsessed at the moment), wearing a cheeky vest and bow tie, G.O embraced his inner quirky college student persona and let all of that cute wrapped in some ridiculous handsome come out to play during the promotional photo shoot.
