The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 439

The premise was simple – complete an athletic task and the crowd (which was predominately, if not all, comprised of your fan base) would be rewarded for your success. Seems easy, right? Well, it proved to be somewhat challenging ~ albeit entertaining ~ for our fit and fab main vocal man when he had to become a rhythmic gymnast for the day as part of KBS2’s athletic variety program Let’s Go! Dream Team.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 406

Tonight 우리 사이 어떻게 하죠
[Tonight, what do we do about our relationship?]
자꾸 화만 내는 그대가
[You keep getting mad]
이제는 더 지쳐 가네요
[And I’m getting tired of it now]
나는 정말 어떡해요 난
[What should I do?]

These are words I would think no one would ever want to hear from their beloved. It is a pierce to the heart alone hearing them from G.O; yet, he is dutifully in charge of those lyrics in the lithe and rhythmic break up song, 우리 사이 [Our Relationship], from MBLAQ’s masterpiece 6th mini album, Broken. Even though it is heartbreaking for me to hear G.O sing these words, my ears incessantly argue with my heart. G.O’s vocals are mellifluous and flawless, with his improvisational runs particularly beautiful. With that, even though this is a gorgeous group effort, I still place it squarely in the G.O Vocal Virtuosity category here on the countdown.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 405

While it is true that G.O has had a lot of experience being the younger brother, much of that experience comes from being the younger brother of two older sisters. Outside of perhaps his peers and well, yes of course, his brother-in-law, he has not been the younger brother to an older brother. And before you Seungholics start screaming that indeed G.O has been and is a younger brother, I will say that I see your point; but really guys, Seung Ho is only three weeks to-the-day older than G.O. I think those two perhaps view themselves on more of an equal playing field. Nevertheless, I believe with all of my heart that G.O views Seung Ho as a brother (and an older one at that) not only in the colleague/peer sense, but in a family sense. Where am I going with this you might ask? Well, since I have been showing Tykeys quite a bit of love as of late, I wanted to touch on an early younger/older brother experience. G.O was Tykeys’ maknae after all and Kim Hyun Jung indeed his hyung. When I look at early pictures of the two, as well as their overall dynamic, I am convinced G.O endeared Hyun Jung as a more than just a band mate, he was indeed family and yes, an older brother. The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 383

It is difficult getting back into the groove and routine of my every day life since returning from Seoul. Keeping up with my countdown posts however seems to be flowing ok. At least one thing is staying consistent. For some reason (probably because I have the heart of a five-year old child), I am really looking forward to hitting Day 400. Milestones. You know how I feel about those.~^^ Even though there will be over 300 days remaining at that point, I still find myself full of excitement as we get closer to discharge. Likewise, every moment I get to sit down and write about this amazing young man makes me happy. Today (as you can see) is a One Shot day. It is also time for a one shot .gif. Lately, I have been longing for Mirror ~ the song, performances, just anything Mirror-related. To quench a little bit of that thirst, I will share a few short G.O .gifs from one of the many performances of MBLAQ’s exquisite and haunting title song.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 379

It is Thursday and my first full day back to reality after a recent trip to Seoul which I find to always be magical even if I am there for no particular reason. Well, truth be told, I actually planned to be there for a couple of reasons. First, I thought Seung Ho would perform through the end of February in his musical Sabita; and second, I kind of wanted to be there to commemorate G.O completing one year of his military service.  I accomplished one so for that my trip was successful! Whenever I leave Seoul, I feel nostalgic. For this 379th day of G.O’s service then, a little Throwback Thursday as I travel way back to May 2010 when MBLAQ hit the stage in Changwon (G.O’s birthplace) for the Miss Korea 2010 Pageant to share some photographic moments captured of our charismatic main vocal.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 371

Wow…we are less than a month away from hitting Day 400!! You are going to have go along with me here when I get excited about these upcoming mini milestone moments. Four hundred days, though. Remember back when G.O left for training camp and we all let out this incredible and I suspect quite audible ‘ugggggggh….730 days’? I remember. I remember having to comfort a few by reminding them that it will go by quickly and it has! Ok, I will slow down here for now and try to contain my excitement. It is only Day 371, but is a G.O One Shot .gif day. Seems like a nice day to throw some G.O love out into the blogosphere!^^

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 369

Don’t you just love the G.OMir dynamic? It has to be one of the most playful inter-group relationships in popular music (Korean or otherwise) today. I really have no foundation on which to build that statement as I have no idea what the dynamics are in other groups since I follow none other than MBLAQ; but I think theirs would a standard by which I could measure all others. I am so ferociously biased, aren’t I? Bottom line with MBLAQ though (in my opinion) is that G.O is the special ingredient in the mix that always brings the playful out in others. Pairing G.O with the equally playful Mir as disc jockeys in charge of a radio studio lays the groundwork for good entertainment, albeit wrapped in mischief.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 361

Remember back in July-August 2014 when the Ice Bucket Challenge was going viral to promote awareness of the disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)? If so, then you will remember that G.O was challenged by comedian Kim Ji Ho to take that challenge and bravely allowed an entire bucket….no, ice cooler of water poured over his adorable self.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 309

If I limit myself to only posting various performances of G.O singing for the next 422 days, it would be quite nice indeed. However, it would deprive all (including me) from enjoying all aspects of G.O’s charm. To be honest, it would also be lazy of me given my overall desire to share every bit of G.O’s art and talent which is in no way limited to just music. While it is true that music is what generally defines him for it seems to be his first and foremost passion, G.O’s own exploration into other genres of art certainly expands his horizons as an artist perhaps even revealing exciting new ways for him to express himself artistically. If I confine this series to just music, one thing is certain: we would miss out on getting to revisit G.Os playful antics such as those captured at Samsung Galaxy’s S III Big Idol Match on 7 August 2012.
