The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 427

When shuffling through your MBLAQ collection do you ever come to the Y  album and get stuck there for awhile? I do. The reason I get stuck on Y is mostly because of the dreamy ballad Last Luv. Oh the feels that song gives me. But today, I want to focus a Vocal Virtuosity moment towards MBLAQ’s 8 June 2010 performance of What U Want on MNet’s The Pub Only You Concert. I am going to be a bit brazen here because I really wish to focus on the last minute or so of the performance, for obvious reasons.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 419

Ok, I think I am back on schedule with the G.O One Shots. I decided that with just a little over 300 days left (312, to be exact), I am going to be less stringent with some of the parameters I have set for myself here on the Countdown. Much like our serene music man, I am going to relax and let things effortlessly flow. Today’s flow is all about the 14 January 2012 Music Core performance of the powerful 전쟁이야 [This Is War]. I cannot help but turn this one shot .gif day into a multi-shot .gif day. See, I am happily stepping outside of the One Shot boundaries, it and feels good.~^^

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 396

Before I add any G.O-inspired episode excerpts from Kim Soo Ro’s 명문대 특별반 엠블랙 [Special Class In An Elite University] to the countdown, I just want to enjoy the promotional pictures that were being circulated back in July 2010 when it was announced that MBLAQ would be joining Soo Ro on his program. It is Sunday and I don’t want to over do it!! Studious looking (once again those eyeglass frames – I think I am a little bit obsessed at the moment), wearing a cheeky vest and bow tie, G.O embraced his inner quirky college student persona and let all of that cute wrapped in some ridiculous handsome come out to play during the promotional photo shoot.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 307

What I love most about G.O’s performance of Play That Song on the 22 November 2013 broadcast of Yoo Heeyeol’s Sketchbook is that he is backed by a live band and back up singers which I feel gives a soulful weight to the earthiness of this incredible R&B ballad. The dynamic of a live band backing G.O is how I envision him performing…..always.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 306

I was thinking about Broken promotions today and how clueless I was at that time to have made the most of being in Seoul when MBLAQ released their 6th mini album. I mean, I could have gone to so many of the promotions if I only knew how to go about it at that time. I was just stepping into the fandom then and the only thing on my mind was G.O. Although MBLAQ had released their Japanese single, Still In Love just prior to Broken, I was still somewhat out of the loop and the thought of trying to get to any promotions did not really cross my mind. Despite my own ineptitude, I don’t look back on that trip to Seoul as a failure. On the contrary. It was my MBLAQ awakening, as it were, and the very moment I met and came face-to-face with my one true bias. On 8 April 2014 I would see G.O perform for the first time in Seopyeonje, however earlier that day he and MBLAQ were at the SBS studios getting their 남자답게 [Be A Man] groove on for The Show, which resulted in a fabulous G.O- focused cam.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 303

You know, in MBLAQ’s early debut days, I think many fans were misled by G.O’s mature, street saavy look with his cropped tossled hair and goatee, and were quick to label him a bad boy. I think if I would have discovered him in those early days, he would have had the opposite affect on me, for all I see is dreamy, handsome and sexy. With five members in the group, I know G.O was not always the focal point (amazing to me but true~^^); however, if fans paid attention (and there were many who did) to the incredible passion, strength, tone and beauty of G.O’s voice while getting lost in his expressive eyes while he sang, the truth of his tender and romantic heart would shine through revealing that his core was softer than any flower boy in Korean popular music at that time and probably still is. It is nine days before Christmas and Fan-Camming Friday. In anticipation of the holidays, I want to revisit the 24 December 2009 TBS Christmas Special and MBLAQ’s hyung line performance of My Dream with a cam focus on G.O . . . of course. The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 298

Today, I am in the mood for a little bit of savoir faire. It is Day 298 of G.O’s service and a Sunday. Even though every day is special in this countdown, today I bring a touch of elegance. As we inch closer to the 300th day of G.O’s service, it continues to amaze me how quickly the days are passing. Trust me, I miss G.O very much, but father time is obliging us all by moving swiftly and with purpose. A simple and sweet flashback for today then, with an added splash of sophistication. Surely you remember G.O in that sharp black suit and tie at the January 2012 Hello Baby press conference.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 295

I knew going into this project, this countdown of the days G.O was away fulfilling his mandatory military service, that he would provide me with more than enough moments to share of his talent, creativity, humor, and intellect than days he had to serve. The best part of this journey is when I look at a blank entry in my countdown log and have a moment of anxiety thinking what do I write about today? Without fail, something always arrives to the doorstep of my mind…or perhaps heart, and another day sees a little bit more of G.O’s magic. A couple days ago I introduced another little sub-category to the mix which I labeled Impromptu Melodies. The one I have for today can also easily be stored on the Vocal Virtuosity shelf. It is Thursday so we can throwback a little here to August 2011 and an impromptu moment on 도전 1000곡 [1000 Song Challenge] with our vocal virtuoso and a little Mona Lisa.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 294

I would image that recording an episode of any kind of variety show, sitcom, drama, or even MV for that matter, would be putting in a long day’s work. And given that the shows are generally taped, I would assume that there is down time, NGs, retakes, breaks and the like. All of which make conditions right for a little mischief. If I had to choose a mischief-maker for my team, I would most assuredly choose G.O. Back on 22 February 2010, he, Joon and Mir hit up the KBS2’s 스타 골든 벨 [Star Golden Bell] variety show taping for an upcoming episode and when the network cameras were not rolling, there were some fan cams that were thus giving the Countdown another quick and cheeky Playful G.O moment.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 286

Exactly 100 days ago today, I published a post about MBLAQ’s appearance on the KBS2 variety show, Invincible Youth. One hundred days!! It still amazes me how quickly time is passing. I thought it would be fun to revisit G.O’s moments during the first part of MBLAQ’s two-episode appearance, Episode 40 which aired on 6 August 2010. Where G.O and After School’s Joo Yeon’s antics in Episode 41 were perhaps filled with a little sizzle and a lot of humor, G.O and f(x)’s Victoria hit us with a little playful and a whole lot of adorable in Episode 40.
