The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 481

I don’t know about you, but I am rather enjoying these moments looking back at G.O’s airport style. Back in June 2012, the men of MBLAQ were embarking upon their Blaq% Asia Tour and on the 28th of the month were Indonesia bound. Casual, comfortable and dangerously handsome (as always), I once again love how G.O can take something as simple as a white t-shirt, track suit pants and baseball cap and still make it look sophisticated. Let’s break it down and have a closer look, shall we?

Eloquence is described as being good with words and expressing things in a pleasing or persuasive manner. It can also be described as possessing the quality of graceful expression. I have always appreciated G.O’s soft spoken manner and even when there are times I do not understand a word, I still hear eloquence. Continuing my look back at June 2015 and specifically the comeback release of MBLAQ’s Mirror, I revisit today some of G.O’s eloquent excerpts from ArirangTV’s Pop In Seoul interview of MBLAQ wherein he talked about the evolution of the group and of course, the music.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 479

In keeping with my look back at the release of Mirror, I offer a six-shot today in .gif form, because one is simply not enough. After the hiatus and reorganization of the group, seeing G.O during the Mirror promotions was like Christmas in June for this fangirl. I know that many view the song (Mirror) as a direct lament to Lee Joon and Cheondung for leaving the group and sure, as the song is about a break up, everyone can make their own conclusions. Nevertheless, the song in and of itself is exquisite. The tight vocals settle comfortably in a beautiful melody with piercing lyrics. Mir’s defiant rap is reminiscent of the dominating rap segments in Stay and This Is War. Mirror is a heart-breaking song that starts as a gentle snowfall and ultimately grows into an avalanche of emotion. And then there were the visuals . . .

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 478

Today I reflect on the release of MBLAQ’s wonderful Mirror. It is the anniversary of the release of the group’s 8th mini album, but their first as a trio. As such, it will forever remain special, a memento and turning point marking a new chapter for the handsome young men carrying on the name and tradition of MBLAQ. I don’t know if G.O being away in the Army has made me extra special nostalgic or if it is simply a by-product of this series as I continue to pull moments and memories of G.O’s journey. On 9 June 2015, MBLAQ released Mirror, met the press, and met ever briefly with their loving fans. For today’s Fan-Camming Friday, I will rely on thegopygmalion who captured about two minutes of  G.O-focused cam during the showcase held that warm Tuesday evening in June.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 477

Often times, when I am in the kind of nostalgic mood that I have been in as of late and I want to feel the warm caress of G.O’s voice in an early MBLAQ song, I find myself listening to Celebrate. It probably ranks as one of my favorite group ballads. Every symphonious note that G.O releases into the atmosphere is like a drop of resonant honey that coats the heart. There are many songs worth showcasing in a Vocal Virtuosity segment and I still have plenty of days left to explore a good many of them. But for this sweet second Thursday of June, lets head back to the central western coast of South Korea to Sohae College and . . . Celebrate.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 476

It has been over a month since I offered a Windows To Your Soul ~ The G.O Eye Connect post here on the Countdown. It is not that I am slacking, it is just that I need to build up some resistance to G.O’s penetrating gaze. Back in April 2011, he all of about left a few hearts shipwrecked during MBLAQ’s performance at Kang Hwa Island. The wonderful A Lucky Day and SoulStar were successful in capturing his attention while pointing their cameras at him. Once he locked in, he let all kinds of flirtatious sweetness and charm invade their lenses.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 475

Every day, I find myself saying a prayer for G.O. I don’t ask for much outside of his health and happiness. But, I do pray that he not dwell on the past nor worry about the future. The crazy thing is, the bulk of this countdown series has been an exercise of dwelling on the past. Well, maybe it is a different kind of dwell. It is more of a revival or revisiting of moments in time G.O has shared with us from the very beginning of his career to today. Yes, some of the memories are tinged with sadness. The majority of them however are treasures. Today is the anniversary of MBLAQ’s first stage as a trio when they appeared at the Omiya Super Live Show in Japan back on 6 June 2015. Nostalgia once again sets in, and I must go back.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 474

I cannot believe I have let 16 months pass without taking a moment here on the Countdown to admire G.O’s airport style. Well, I did touch on it a little bit back on Days 155 and 202, but overall have not done so with regularity. With the plethora of pictures and cams that exist of any one of the many arrivals and departures from airports worldwide that are available, you would think I would have included more of those moments in the Countdown by now! Well, there are 257 more days left to G.O’s service so now is as good of a time as any to to make it a reoccurring sub-category in the mix. When is G.O not stylish? He always looks fabulous whether he is dressed casually or more formal. Clothes just love this man. His airport style has been consistently comfortable with a touch of something (an accessory, a hat, sunglasses, or shoes) that adds a little extra dazzle, glamour and allure. Such was the case back on 13 March 2013 when the men of MBLAQ were en route to Thailand.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 472

Is it possible to find a Vocal Virtuosity moment during a Korean game show? Absolutely! Back in April 2011, our main vocal man along with leader Seung Ho appeared on 1 vs. 100, a game show that was originally developed by a Dutch-based media company that saw its concept grow worldwide. Along with many other countries, South Korea had its version as well. The basic concept pitted one contestant against a panel consisting of 100 people. If the contestant was able to eliminate the entire 100 by answering questions correctly, he or she would walk away with a large cash prize. Frankly, I am not sure I would be able to answer anything after hearing G.O sing. Even the few bars of 다시 [Again] stun me. However, it makes for a perfect short and sweet Vocal Virtuosity moment for Day 472 and, there is a bonus: he sings with Seung Ho.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 471

One of the five million things I absolutely adore about G.O is how he is the perfect balance of fiercely masculine and achingly tender. On either side of those spectrums are numerous examples of each. Today I opt for a fiercely masculine moment which will always be best displayed during a performance of 저쟁이야 [This Is War]. Even at the fiercest moments of RunStay or even Oh Yeah, nothing matches the furious vocals, choreography or penetratingly intense gazes that This Is War brings. Couple that with black on black on black costumery and the performance becomes all that more powerful. There really is nothing that can remotely temper G.O’s intensity during any This Is War performance. It definitely was present at the Busan Catholic University show back in May 2012. In fact, that kind of intensity only amplified the charisma and handsomeness that oozed from the stage that day. It is Fan-Camming Friday and a blast of G.O intensity is the perfect way to usher in the weekend.
