I decided on a Vocal Magic moment for today and then also realized that the post could equally double as a pre-debut moment. Even though Donghun and Chan recorded this cover of John Legend’s All of Me prior to A.C.E’s debut, it falls decidedly more perfect in the vocal magic category. I am not going to lie, when I first heard it, I was floored. If you are familiar with John Legend’s original, you will know it as a solo song. Let two sing it and it becomes a harmonized masterpiece of grand proportions. I could be exaggerating, but I am mostly likely not. Come have a listen.
Oh it’s that time again. Yes, it is time to let Donghun set the mic aside and lace up his dancing shoes. I know I have mentioned (maybe even over-mentioned) the fact that all five members of A.C.E are powerful dancers. I absolutely love watching all five of them in dance mode but will admit to having an extra special soft spot for Donghun. For a boy who just wanted to sing, he certainly proved that he is a man who excels at both. Today’s dance break travels back in time to March of 2020 with the group’s Japanese comeback. I know, I know, I have not even mentioned or talked about A.C.E’s Japanese debut, but I am sure I will have something to say about that at some point during this countdown. As is evident that this countdown is more of a counting toward as opposed to counting back (or down), it is clear that my sense of time in and of itself is a little out of whack. Anyway, A.C.E released a non-album single, My Lover, for their Japanese comeback, and were most likely preparing for potential in-person fan meets or concerts as they choreographed the song and it was definitely stage ready.
In the early days both before and after debut, and even up through their 2019 Under Cover Tour, A.C.E took to the streets busking. Out meeting the public, surprising and engaging with their fans, and garnering new Choice converts, A.C.E tirelessly put themselves in public view. It was not busking in the traditional sense however, as in setting up a mic, grabbing a guitar (or other musical instrument) and being impromptu troubadours. No, they were out there out there A.C.E busking in the dance performance sense. Like in Shinjuku, Japan in March 2018.
I can conceivably consider every one of these countdown posts an ‘art break’ because I basically consider Donghun a work of art all unto himself, and a multi-faceted one at that. However, DH Fan-Artastic is all about those who are inspired to draw, sketch or paint Donghun’s image capturing a moment that could encompass an element of his personality, a mood or how he was particularly styled for a comeback. Ah, yes, the comeback concept. A.C.E has had some truly remarkable and memorable ones. I admit I am kind of stuck in the Siren:Dawn era and that is where our fan art lands today.
Let’s agree that what happens at fan meeting/signs, stays at fan meeting/signs. Unless of course there is tangible proof of the mischief that ensues when a group meets with fans to shower them with love and gratitude. And well, they want to make it memorable, right? Even if it gets a little rude, yes? I am not talking offensive rude. No, just the kind of rude that can make a fangirl blush. Sort of like what A.C.E served up at their June 29, 2018 fan sign in Busan, and which is the subject of this Hunnie Cam offering.
Looks like it is time for another DH One Shot. This time I am opting for an animated one shot, or gif. Over the course of this countdown you are probably going to hear me describe Donghun with a myriad of adjectives (me and my thesaurus are soulmates) and I most likely will have ethereal on repeat.🤷🏻♀️ Donghun just happens to have many ethereal moments.
Just as not all actors can sing, not all singers can act. But what I have found in Korean entertainment is that there is lots of crossover. Many who act can sing and indeed, many who sing can act. Donghun has shown up in a couple of dramas which I am sure I will chat about here in the coming days ahead; but to kick off a little sub-series I would to call Actor DH, I am going to opt for something cheeky and fun. Like the time he told the hosts of Weekly Idol that he could make himself cry even while singing an upbeat song. Ok then, have at it Mr. Lee!
If you have been around K-pop for a good amount of time, you probably know that when groups are initially formed the music they release is often times written by in-house composers and producers, or various outside production teams that are hired to do same. Even when the members of the group do write and compose their own songs, it takes some time before those tracks see the light of day on a release. At least this has been the way in the past. I guess that is why so many K-pop artists have a SoundCloud side hustle. More and more, however, we are seeing self-composed tracks make it on album releases which is not only a good thing, it’s a great thing. Today’s post shines some light on producer Donghun, and his self-composed track, Story, from A.C.E’s fourth EP release, Siren:Dawn.
If you were just getting to know A.C.E and asked Choice who the main dancer or dancers are in A.C.E, odds are they would most likely say Wow and Byeongkwan. They are, after all, the group’s named main dancers. But if you asked me, I would say all five. Just because he does not carry the title main does not exclude the fact that Mr. Lee can cut a rug. It is easy for me to sing praises about Donghun’s vocal prowess. It’s a given that the man can sing. However, it is also a given that the man can dance. And when you put him side-by-side with one of the group’s mains, Donghun proves he is just as main as the main!
I love fan art. It’s true, I am not even remotely artistically inclined when it comes to drawing, sketching, painting and the like. But it is also true that I do have a huge appreciation for the visual arts. While I am arguably jealous of those who are able to draw, sketch and paint beautiful renditions of their favorite artists, I am always inclined to share their work when and where I can. This little countdown is the perfect place to showcase wonderful and creative fans and their Donghun fan art.
