Donghun proves time and time again how much of a skilled vocalist he is both in A.C.E and individually. Another facet of his vocal prowess is showcased in duets. His work with Sonnet is gorgeous (you will recall both Shallow and Little Do You Know). But, I particularly enjoy when he pairs up with one of his A.C.E brothers. When I sat down to write this post I was feeling a bit broody and introspective. And the background music whirling in my head was playing an old song from the late 1940’s, a classic tune that became a huge hit and synonymous with balladeer, Nat King Cole. The song is called Nature Boy and you may or may not be familiar, but it made me want to try and find a selca Donghun took while in nature or with some kind of nature back drop. Most of the pictures I found were taken of him and not necessarily by him. But I found something that will work.

With 576 estimated days remaining in Donghun’s service, I can guarantee one thing for certain that will happen during this countdown and that is my never-ending praise for the glorious HJZM:The Butterfly Phantasy era and Donghun’s top knot. The richness in style, colors, and the blend of past with present fashion was an indelible sight to behold. I wish I could say that what happens on VLive, stays on VLive but the entire MO of our fave artists going live on their respective VLive channels is getting the opportunity to be spontaneous and, for the most part, unscripted. I have no doubt that rookie groups are diligently watched over during any kind of live broadcast. However from their earliest days, I have always got the impression that A.C.E has had a great deal of autonomy, and I am confident Beat knows they would never go completely off the rails during a live broadcast! In the VLive clip I share today, Donghun gets the 411 from fans during his June 4, 2019 VLive that leader Jun not only ate Donghun’s jellies, he also rummaged through his bag. How will Dong Dong retaliate?!

I knew our patience would be rewarded. On the eve of his 60th day of service, our beloved main vocal updated his Instagram account. What is so nice about public service is the tiny bit of leniency enlistees get when it comes to using their SNS accounts. True, Donghun can’t be posting those multiple selcas on the various A.C.E SNS accounts, but his personal one is where he can quietly stay in touch. On November 20, he updated with a series of pictures which included ones of himself.

Competition shows are not my favorite subject to write about but seeing how the focal point of this countdown has participated in two, I would be remiss to ignore these important moments of Donghun’s artistic journey. I have already introduced Donghun’s pre-debut participation in Superstar K5 where he may not have taken home the winning trophy, but did become a trainee which of course led to his ultimate and inevitable debut. But what of competing after debut? What purpose could this serve and why be subjected to more intense scrutiny, evaluation and criticism, especially by YG Entertainment’s Yang Hyun Suk?😬 Well, I actually do understand; so I am adding another little sub-series within the countdown I am going to call In The Mix which will take us back to Donghun’s time on the JTBC survival reality show, Mix Nine.

Waiting For Donghun ~ Day 56

Today a little of the mundane. Well, I am not sure idol life is in any way mundane but they (like the rest of us) do have days when they do things that are not noteworthy or are, for lack of a better term, normal. For us non-celebs, getting a chance to see a day in the life of our fave artists is interesting not because it is so amazing, fantastic and enviable, but rather, because we get to see that they are not that much different than any of us well, when they are not doing idol things, that is. The A.C.E members have offered many a day-in-the life videos through vlogs and I am going to take little slices of Donghun’s to share in the countdown.
