It is Day 310 and time for another installment of Fan-Camming Friday. This fan-camming moment is actually a sequel to Day 303 where I visited an early G.O-focused fan cam moment from the 24 December 2009 TBS Christmas Special. What is his process? Does the melody come and then the lyrics? Are there sometimes only lyrics and no melody? Or only a melody which he gently sets aside to contemplate or place before collaborators for words? Perhaps it is a maelstrom of words and melody that collide simultaneously within his heart and soul wherein all of the parts piece together like an intrique puzzle and a song is born. Whatever his process, G.O has proven himself to be an adept lyricist and composer. Our first glimpse of his writing prowess came with Tykeys 한번만 [Only Once], but with MBLAQ, we had our first taste with 돌아올 수 없는 [Can’t Come Back], his powerful dance track composition which provided the backdrop to Mir’s lyrics. There was much sadness surrounding the recording and subsequent release of MBLAQ’s 7th mini album, Winter. This is undeniably true. That sadness however does not overshadow the absolute beauty of the four original tracks on the album and, in particular, the poignancy in the quiet and tender ballads contained therein. I love this album. Even when it breaks me with every listen. Even when I cannot hold back my tears. It is exquisite for it contains my favorite G.O-written and composed song 봄여 름 가을 그리고 . . . [Spring Summer Autumn And . . .]. For Day 279 however, I want to focus attention on another song from Winter, the Cheondung-penned 괜찮을 거란 그 말 [Words That Make It Okay]. I am on a Vocal Virtuosity tirade as of late because frankly, G.O needs more and continued recognition for his talent and artistry as a vocalist. Inasmuch as G.O’s voice is at its premier emotional best on all of the Winter tracks, his verse work, improvs and ad libs in 괜찮을 거란 그 말 are particularly noteworthy.

On 26 May 2011, Episode 12 of MBLAQ’s Sesame Player aired and with it the final Fragrant Interview. The Fragrant Interview segment was one of my favorite of the series because it was almost like a truth or dare (without the dare) game wherein one of the men acted as interrogator asking a series of questions to their unsuspecting MBLAQ brother. If the answer was not acceptable, a penalty was issued in the form of a fart bomb. In Ep 12, the Interview was like a retrospective of the previous Interview segments and is my random Sesame Player episode choice for Day 214 of G.O’s military service.

It has been awhile since I raided the Hello Baby archives for a post so I decided to choose a random episode to have some fun with on this 190th (OMG….!) day of G.O’s service. I chose Episode 7 which as you may recall, was the episode wherein the MBLAQ appas decided they needed a mother for the children. This ep introduced five potential mommy candidates who, according to the appas, needed to possess four very important traits in order to be considered for the position (G.O offering the first two…lol!): 1. Beauty. 2. Beauty. 3. Wealth. 4. Some childcare knowledge. *smh* <~~~~ And vigorously so!! <hehe>

It has been some time since I opened up the Sesame Player vault to feature a moment from a randomly chosen episode and since it is the 6th of August I went ahead and chose Episode 6 and from that episode, the Ddabong Challenge. The goofy antics of Seung Ho, G.O, Joon and Cheondung had me giggling throughout the entire segment. Of course, that was when G.O wasn’t assaulting all of my senses with his charm, charisma, pouty lips and dreamy eyes. So distracting! ~.^

Nothing says summer quite like the sweet sounds of reggae music. And when you mix MBLAQ with ska punk group Lazybone on a warm summer day, let them take the pop out of 알면서 그래 [You Already Knew] and stir it up with some reggae-infused magic, it pushes the song to a whole new level, and I love it!

By October 2013, G.O had made appearances in two dramas that aired that same year. Come November he was set to have his last Immortal Song 2 performance AND see the release of his second digital single, Play That Song. He had a lot going on so it was nice that K Culture decided to feature the charming men of MBLAQ in the pages of their magazine in mid-autumn 2013.

Part of idol culture is to periodically make appearances at award shows, movie or television drama premiers, press conferences and the occasional product or service launch party. So in addition to being able to see your bias on the stage or listen to him (or her) via the magic of digital recording, seeing them out and about at various events gives a added boost of excitement, and usually some pictures and potentially some video footage.
