Part of idol culture is to periodically make appearances at award shows, movie or television drama premiers, press conferences and the occasional product or service launch party. So in addition to being able to see your bias on the stage or listen to him  (or her) via the magic of digital recording, seeing them out and about at various events gives a added boost of excitement, and usually some pictures and potentially some video footage.

Would you agree that having a song on a drama OST and also showing up on the show constitutes a double bonus? And, wouldn’t it be made that much sweeter if that song was one you wrote and composed? Indeed. Such was the case for G.O and Mir’s 알고있었어 [I Already Knew]. They hit the trifecta for Channel A’s drama, K-pop 최강 서바이벌 [Strongest K-pop Star Survival], by appearing in the show, having a song on the OST, and being the writers and composers of that song.

If you have had a chance to look over the index of these countdown posts, you may have noticed that I have been trying to group various posts within some kind of subtitle of sorts: Becoming Immortal, G.O One Shot, Singing Benét, etc. I have also included a subtitled group called The Heavenly Collaboration. I guess you can call me sentimental. Two years ago today I experienced my very first MWave online meet and greet with MBLAQ. I was working long hours in New Orleans that week for my job, and did not think I would be able to stay awake long enough to watch the show. Scheduled at a decent 2:00 PM KST hour, that translated to midnight my time. But the moment I saw G.O with his hair freshly sheared, goatee-d in a fedora wearing a t-shirt with the goddess Venus de Milo on the front of it (a definite shout out to his goddesses), I was wide awake and ready to watch the fun begin.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 85

G.O and Mir. It had to be fate, destiny or written somewhere that these two gentle spirits were going to cross paths and become one very powerful rap-vocal OST duo. They released two songs in 2012 and one in 2013 for three different original soundtracks. I think they are due for another one, don’t you ~ well, once G.O completes his service. For Day 85, I want to revisit my fave of the OST work exclusive to G.O and Mir, 천국이니까 [Because It’s Heaven/Winter Rain] from the Korean drama, The King of Dramas.

By 2011 and well into their second full year as a group, MBLAQ was indelibly embraced (and rightfully so) by Japan; their JA+ fandom strong and growing. They were gaining so much popularity and love in Japan that Odina Magazine featured them not once, not twice, but three times in 2011. One year, three cover stories. Too much……wait, no, there can never ever be too much G.O!!

I know I incessantly lament (more like whine) over the fact that I discovered MBLAQ later than most in their fandom. There is something truly special and exciting about experiencing the moment a song is released, catching a real-time red carpet appearance, or even seeing the first photo or video of a photo shoot. The upside is that somewhere most of these past events have been safely secured on the internet. Bless!!

In December 2009, Rain took his five talented protégées to Japan to introduce them to his Japanese fans. And thus began Japan’s love affair with the glorious men living in absolute quality. The really amazing part of this moment in MBLAQ’s history was that MNET Japan decided to document the group’s first visit to Japan for their 2010 K-Pop Star Series. In the documentary entitled Yo! Tokyo, fans were able to get to know a little more about MBLAQ from the men themselves. For me, however, the sweetest revelation in this documentary was watching G.O own the fact that he pulled rank as the member of MBLAQ most favored by the more *cough* mature fan base.

There are many adjectives to describe G.O and I am sure if there was an adjective search button on my blog and you ran all of my posts about him through it, the list would be long, varied and replete with probable repetitions.
