The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 228

I remember when I first heard 열쇠 [Key]. I thought…wow, this is exactly the kind of ballad made for G.O to sing. When MBLAQ released Broken in March 2014, I was pretty confident they were going to pair 남자답게 [Be A Man] with 우리 사이 [Our Relationship] as the teasers J Tune released seemed to indicate such. However, when MBLAQ staged their comeback and began making the rounds performing on various music programs, it was 열쇠 [Key] that became the worthy partner. They also performed 열쇠 at the Broken Showcase on 24 March 2014 and it was easy to discern the rapturous effect the beauty of the song’s melody and heartfelt lyrics had on our gentle main vocal man.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 219

Light can be defined without sun.
Sweetness can be defined without honey.
Fragrance can be defined without a rose, but beauty cannot be defined without you.

At the close of 2013, I was well on my journey into falling deeply under G.O’s spell. It was fortunate in that there was much to look forward to in the new year, specifically an MBLAQ comeback, complete with a Japanese single release as well as two starring roles for our up and coming musical actor, G.O. Before the release of Broken and subsequent promotions, and before G.O’s Korean musical theater debut in Seopyeonje, the men of MBLAQ took part in a WAPOP concert at the Dome Art Hall of the Seoul Children’s Grand Park. Too much beautiful on the stage that day. Too much.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 210

I think one of the main reasons I love Broken so much is that the men of MBLAQ took the sensual vibe of Sexy Beat, let it mature like a fine wine and came back with sheer elegance and sophistication when they released their 6th mini album. With the smooth groove, 둘이라서 [Because There Are Two], I felt as if G.O was also maturing as a writer and composer. Coupled with that was his instinctive ability to call upon outside assistance from respected writers, composers and producers (Avengers and Radio Galaxi) to help take what was simmering in his melodically sound retro soul and give it cohesion and vibe.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 202

When I sat down to write this post, it was midnight and I had had a glass of wine. For those reasons (and probably others) I found G.O’s saunter through Gimpo Airport on 4 December 2011 rather sensuous. Maybe it was the beanie/hoodie combination with the dark glasses. Or perhaps it was just the way he seemed to be gliding as he walked. Or, how about the soft smile on his perfect lips? Whatever the reason, G.O makes a simple walk through the airport a seismic event for the senses and the perfect choice for a Fan-Camming day here on the blog.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 193

I cannot believe it took almost 200 days before I decided to write about G.O’s first solo single, 내꿈에 서라도 [Even In My Dreams], the tender and romantic ballad he wrote and composed that was released in July 2011. In that I always want to celebrate G.O’s music as well as his writing and composing skills, I am surprised I waited this long! Well, it is a Sunday and so it goes that something light and romantic should be the main course of the day.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 181

Although a classic break up song, there was still something very sweet about G.O singing a little bit of the chorus to Ne-yo’s So Sick at the SBS Tenten Club Public Broadcast on 14 February 2011, even if it was Valentine’s Day! I would be hard pressed to be sick of any love song on that day and even more reluctant to turn away from a song (break up or otherwise) sung by G.O. Just sayin’. I love that G.O revived a little of the song at the Tenten broadcast since it has most likely been a song on his personal playlist for some time. He covered it way back in his Tykeys days. So on this 181st day of his service, I am setting the dial to the Retro Room station to revisit G.O’s cover of So Sick.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 175

Little did I know that back on Day 91 when I decided to share a Heavenly Collaboration featuring G.O with J.ae, that it was in essence a Part Two for this particular collaboration team. I was unaware that G.O and J.ae had crossed paths prior to his MBLAQ days and I certainly was not aware of the fact that they shared the stage singing together prior to the April 2010 A-Live performance. Then I came across a short clip of the two of them singing J.ae’s 눈부신 날에 [On A Blinding Day].

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 145

Golden moments. That is how I describe any and all Tykeys moments captured whether it be photograph, audio, video or otherwise. They are part of G.Os history and even if he disagrees, an amazing part at that. In the short time Tykeys spent promoting and performing before they disbanded, they left us with so much gold. The rare practice room videos are indeed treasured gifts and always wonderful to unwrap and enjoy time and again.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 104

As much as I honestly believe in my heart of hearts that G.O deserves and should record a solo album (if it is his dream or wish), he is and will always remain an amazing and powerful component in a group or duet. I wrote about his duet work in my 116 Reasons series and included his work with Brown Eyed Soul’s Jung Yup. When I look at the list of G.O’s duets over the course of his career, I’d have to say MNet’s A-Live performance of You Are My Lady is probably my favorite of G.O’s duets (if I am looking at his work outside of the parameters of either Tykeys or MBLAQ, that is).
