Welcome to the Year of the Water Tiger and Donghun’s 132nd day of service!! I say this with much excitement and pride as I was born in the year of the Water Tiger. I take my Lunar sign very seriously for being born in the year of the Tiger feels rather auspicious, doesn’t it? The tiger is such a symbolic, majestic and powerful animal. I think those born under any one of the other eleven signs may feel similarly for each animal in the myth of lunar astrology fought for its revered place. What then can we expect in the Year of the Water Tiger, especially for our beloved Rooster above?
Happy New Year!! It is 2022 ~ can you believe it?! The start of a new year is indeed special. New beginnings with new goals, new hopes and new dreams. And for those of counting down the days to a military discharge, well, the ushering in of a new year means we are that much closer to having our favorite artists who are currently serving return to their adoring fans.
Wishing everyone a safe, healthy and prosperous New Year filled with happiness each and every day!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Next Waiting For Donghun update: Day 132 ~ Lunar New Year
Woo hoo!!!! On this, the final day of 2021, we get to celebrate a couple of things. First, the end of a rough and tumble year, to be sure. The end also marks a new beginning. Let’s hope for a better, brighter, happier and healthier new year. Next, it is also maknae Chan’s birthday – yes, that cheeky Chan is a New Year’s Eve baby. And finally . . . Donghun completes 100 days of his mandatory military service! Did the first hundred fly by for you? Well, hang in there Choice . . . in just 112 short days, Donghun will have completed one third of his service. Glass half full, folks ~ glass half full!
Are you ready for something a little dramatic? Everything about the Siren:Dawn era felt dramatic, the bulk of which were the tantalizing teasers. I found myself hitting that ‘Save Photo’ button more times than I care to admit. The upside to that is that I have amassed a robust collection of potential DH One Shots to share along this countdown journey. Today another hypnotic offering of our main vocal siren. It is dramatic and visually spectacular which kind of comes part and parcel with Donghun.
I don’t think we have had an occasion to discuss the opening track of A.C.E’s HJZM:The Butterfly Phantasy yet, have we? Well, I guess this DH Dance Break is as good time as any to talk about the bombastic and tantalizing Golden Goose. It’s one of those songs that slaps you around in a good way and the choreography, menacingly sexy.
Today we are going to travel back to that in between time from Superstar K5 and Donghun’s debut with A.C.E. After his stint as a contestant on Superstar K5, Donghun signed with CJ E&M and became a trainee. That is where he met Jun and Wow. It is also where he met fellow trainee, Kim Minjae. Before he was an actor, Minjae was pretty much in idol training along with Donghun, Jun and Wow. That meant singing, rapping and dancing. Even before Donghun hit the busking circuit with his A.C.E brothers, he hit the streets in dance crew mode with his fellow trainees and there is video proof to back that up.
I am not an artist, nor have I ever endeavored to be one, but common sense tells me that it is not an easy road to travel. Especially in the world of K-pop where so many begin training as early as middle school (maybe even earlier). I cannot imagine being 11 years old and having to face monthly evaluations of my singing, dancing, acting or whatever medium it is I have chosen to pursue. Now don’t get me wrong, if I had a child who was passionate about anything be it the arts, sports, anything really, I would encourage and nurture that passion with a keen focus on their mental well-being. Where am I going with all this? Well, I came across this VLive broadcast Donghun did back in September 2020 wherein he talked about the often elusive ‘first place’ win on any one of the given music programs K-pop artists and groups make the rounds on during comeback promotions. His thoughts about it are so healthy and grounded that I wanted to share.
It’s time for another DH One Shot. Whew . . . these sneak up on me so quickly! I guess that means time is moving faster than I imagine which of course is a good thing. I am actually rather excited about hitting the hundred day mark and it would have been so perfect if it landed on Christmas Day, but as it turns out, Day 100 will actually land on New Year’s Eve – what a way to say good-bye to 2021 and ring in a new year, don’t you think? Anyway, let’s not get ahead of ourselves just yet. Today a one shot GIF of a charming and playful nature because, why not?
I know that I cannot be the only one charmed endlessly by Donghun’s ASMR videos. I have shared a couple thus far and have another gem to drop here on this 90th day of his service. Ninety days — we will soon hit one hundred. Seems like a crawl to get there, but we will make it. Back in April 2020, the official A.C.E YouTube account posted a DH TV (one of my fave networks, by the way) video of a simple talk/conversation themed ASMR session with Mr. Lee. No eating, drinking, or outrageous sounds with this one. Just the calm gentle sounds of Donghun’s voice as he shares his thoughts about everything from songwriting to insomnia.
When A.C.E debuted in February 2017, they did so with a single. That single was Cactus. They followed Cactus up with another single in October 2017, Callin’. My point here is that they did not release a full album until the following year, June 7, 2018 to be exact. So when it came to live stage performances, the group often included many covers in their sets. Today a Vocal Magic moment taken from a Sofar Sounds live performance in May 2017. Donghun’s solo cover of Crush’s gentle ballad from the Goblin OST, Beautiful. Continue reading →
