The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 249

I understand it, I really do. I get that when a new group bursts on to the Korean popular music scene that there is a formula in place wherein each member of said group has a role. And those roles are generally assigned accordingly to the strength of each member as to what they will bring to the group. I get it. But I have to say with all honesty that in the spring of 2010, Lee Joon’s role of visual in MBLAQ was duly tested following the Y comeback and that G.O easily challenged that role. Yes, I’d say G.O’s role changed with that comeback from main vocal to main vocal and visual, visual….VISUAL!

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 248

I always said that I was gonna make it,
Now it’s plain for everyone to see . . .

To hear G.O sing these lyrics from Craig David’s Rise & Fall in the practice room with Tykeys either during or before his debut with the group is wonderfully prophetic ~ however, when you dig deeper into the song, you understand that is not so much a song about succeeding but rather, the unpredictability of the highs and lows of fame. Once again a song of depth and meaning captures the attention of our young and ambitious main vocal yet I cannot help but wonder if the tale told in Rise & Fall also gave G.O pause to enter the world of entertainment cautiously.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 247

Like many of his adoring fans, I was hoping for a selca update from our gorgeous main vocal back on 15 October in celebration of MBLAQ’s 7th anniversary. Well, maybe not an actual published selca, but you know, the kind he has been sharing with us in way of Instagram and Twitter profile picture updates. Although he did commemorate the anniversary reminding his A+ that he is still as much with us as we are with him, he did so with a picture of shimmering lights and it was lovely. Still, it would have been wonderful to see him. This is my final day in Seoul, so I opt for a quiet and perhaps somber selca for Day 247 of G.O’s service.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 246

I am not your average scream-my-head off at a concert kind of person, generally speaking. If I was at MBLAQ’s Sensation Tour in November 2013, however, and witnessed their cheeky rendition of Beyoncé’s  Put A Ring On It, I am pretty sure my screams would have ripped the roof right off of the venue. The best part of watching the cams from the performance is not so much the sparkle body suit G.O wore, but the incessant smile that would not leave his face.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 245

So yes it is true that 2014 had its ups and downs for MBLAQ, and specifically G.O. But the highs were really high for him. Being cast in two very prestigious musicals kind of pushed him into the limelight, as it were and he landed on a couple of magazine covers as result. I happen to think he is best magazine cover model ever and I think in the future, he will grace many more. Until then, I will honor his moment as both the cover all to himself along with a featured article in the May 2014 edition of Campus Job Joy magazine.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 244

I carry around a notebook (everywhere I go) that has now become quite tattered wherein I have been keeping track of each and every Countdown post ~ yeah, I am pretty old school. When I began this series, I wrote down each day of G.O’s service and have been gradually filling in each line (day) with an idea or thought for a post for that specific day. A long while ago, I made Day 244 a Fan-Camming day and next to it simply wrote: Omiya. I have many fond memories of that lovely day in June. It was also a day filled with an avalanche of feels. When the newly minted trio performed 말하지 말걸 [Don’t Speak], hearing G.O sing it live once again reminded me that the song and his performance of it will forever remain in a class of its own when it comes to feels. Seriously.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 243

Inasmuch as writing about G.O has become a necessary habit, I did not anticipate the well of emotion that I would experience while doing so while being in Seoul. I tried very hard to have as many posts ready to publish prior to my arrival, but I have to be honest, I am kind of happy I get to write while here in Seoul. While it is not adding any new dimension to how I write (or what I write for that matter), I do feel different while doing so. It is 17 October 2016, my 13th day in Seoul, and G.O’s 243rd day of service. No, I have not seen him but just being in the same city (and time zone) makes me pretty happy! Today, I honor composer G.O by ruminating on the heartbreaking 기도 [Prayer] from Love Beat.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 241

Yesterday I began to take a look at G.O’s lunar astrological sign, the Fire Rabbit. Turned out to be a much longer post than I anticipated and I still had a couple more aspects I wanted to touch on so will wrap it up here on his 241st Day of service. The more cerebral and emotional side of the demure rabbit could possibly be where we can see a deeper connect between G.O and his furry lunar sign.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 240

I am in tune with the pulse of the universe.
In my quiet and solitude, I hear the melodies of the soul.
I am the Rabbit.

It is easy to discount astrology and its overall credibility due in part to the over saturation of its commercialism. I totally get it and understand. But underneath it all, as I pointed out in my 116 Reasons post of a million years ago regarding G.O’s western solar astrological sign Scorpio, there is a science to it. And, just as I loved that he was born under the mercurial sign of Scorpio (in the West), I am equally intrigued by the fact that G.O was born in the lunar year of The Fire Rabbit (in the East).
