The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 186

When I decided to take this daily journey counting the days served of G.O’s military service, I knew that there would be a wealth of G.O moments I would be able to write about and share. Admittedly, I would have loved to kept it primarily focused on his music. But in a way, that would do him a bit of a disservice. Even though G.O would probably describe himself a musician (and specifically, a vocalist) first and foremost, his time spent on the musical stage, small screen (and soon, big screen) as well as MC duties and his many appearances on variety programs offer us a window to the vast and infinite facets of his incredible talent. And then, there is his charm, which is always in overflow mode. But it was completely off the richter scale in Episode 41 of KBS2’s Invincible Youth.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 178

It should come as no surprise that I am choosing to capitalize on the fact that we are in the middle of the 2016 Summer Olympics currently under way in Brazil. Indeed, as much as I love the artistic side of G.O (always), I rather enjoy watching his athletic pursuits as well. In the spirit of the Olympics, I decided to revisit MBLAQ’s participation in the 6th Idol Star Athletics ~ Archery Championship from early 2013. Even though our beloved men of MBLAQ came up short and ultimately lost to ZE:A in the archery finals, it is not going to detract from the fact that G.O is one very able archer.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 177

Do you feel like escaping with me today to a sweet spot in a song? Yes sometimes a few short lines in one song have the power to transport and soothe. Of course, the relaxant effect of a song is compounded when the lyrics are being masterfully delivered in a mellifluous melody by a vocalist who understands that of the many elements that comprise a song, it is a vocalist’s honest connect with the thought, meaning and emotion of that song that will indeed capture and move an audience. I believe G.O understands this concept to his core, and why his short interlude between the sharp rap attack in Taw and HaHa’s 내 품이 좋다던사람 [The Person By My Side] reminds us that underneath the hurt and pain of a break up, the heart has a resilience that always seems to be able to weather the storms of love.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 171

It has been some time since I opened up the Sesame Player vault to feature a moment from a randomly chosen episode and since it is the 6th of August I went ahead and chose Episode 6 and from that episode, the Ddabong Challenge. The goofy antics of Seung Ho, G.O, Joon and Cheondung had me giggling throughout the entire segment. Of course, that was when G.O wasn’t assaulting all of my senses with his charm, charisma, pouty lips and dreamy eyes. So distracting! ~.^

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 169

There are moments when I watch G.O perform where I am convinced music is a drug. A heady intoxicant that invades the system of not only the audience, but him as well. I have often wrote about the power a song has over him and how he is held captive by it until the final note. I have called music his muse, his mistress, and his constant. But I think this is the first time I am calling it his drug. I guess there was something extra special about his dreamy eyes during the 11 September 2011 special stage performance on Inkigayo where he and Sistar’s Hyorin joined forces to sing Vibe’s 그남자 그여자 [That Man That Woman] that made me feel the intoxication.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 157

Have you ever had one of those in between days? You know, the kind that aren’t really good, but aren’t necessarily bad either? Where the mood of the day or your own mood teeters somewhere in the middle, neutral to everything? That was my day today. So by the time I got on my train to head home for the evening, I was looking to shake myself free from the neutral with something and that something turned out to be Episode 15 of the KBS wacky variety show, Idol Maknae Rebellion. Oh…what a perfect tonic it was to watch the antics of G.O and Mir.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 128

By the second to last episode of the Korean drama 유령[Ghost/Phantom], the Cyber Crime Unit of detectives led by Kim Woo Hyun (So Ji Sub) were starting to gel at last as a team. When brusque and salty Detective Kwan Hyuk Joo (Kwak Do Won) gathers the team for an afternoon picnic, it could easily have been considered a team building retreat of sorts. The underlying reason for the getaway, however, was far more serious and instead of butting heads (as they had been doing for 18 episodes), they finally came together to begin to truly unravel the mysteries and conspiracies of the rash of murders the show revolved around.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 109

As much as I am missing G.O these days, I am at least grateful that Hello Baby is filled with so many adorably sweet and entertaining moments of him to look back on and enjoy. I am relatively confident I will be able to eke out quite a few more of those moments over the course of these next 622 days. Remember the Bibimbap Song?
