Musing While Cruising the Hallyu Highway
It’s time for another little slice of a day in the life of Donghun as shown via the A.C.E Vlog series. If you recall, back on Day 56 we tagged along with Donghun while he traveled to Hongdae to get his nose pierced. Today, we will follow him as he pays a visit to his furry little niece, Hae.
Our Choice cups continue to runneth over! I went to sleep, woke up to find that our thoughtful Mr. Lee took to his Instagram account for a second day in a row, serving up a fresh new seven shots all of himself save one. I wonder if he will continue this update method going forward; you know, lucky number seven? It is overwhelming to be sure, but I am not complaining. In fact, it almost feels like he is not away as he is staying very much with us in these early days of his service.
This past week here in the United States we celebrated our Thanksgiving holiday. A time throughout history to give thanks for one’s blessings and also to enjoy a feast to celebrate a harvest. For me, I am giving additional thanks to Mr. Lee for bombarding us with a myriad of IG updates. Although this does appear to be somewhat of a shallow offering of thanks, I am equally thankful that Donghun seems to have settled into this public service duties insofar as to pause and miss his Choice.
Back on Day 17, we had a taste of The Tao of Donghun by way of an A.C.E Diary clip. Donghun imparted some thoughtful wisdom to a fan who was self-doubting her decision to join a dance club after entering university. In his gentle and wise way, Donghun encouraged the fan to continue doing what she loved: dance. Moreover, he reminded her to not let anyone decide her value, her ability, her motivation or dreams except herself. He was so encouraging and knew a thing or two about feeling less than adequate when it comes to dancing because it was something that he himself began to learn late in his idol career. In the segment for today, he takes on the question of how to deal with moments of inactivity, malaise or, as the fan writes, No Fun Period. This one is particularly cute and Donghun again has some thoughtful words of encouragement and wisdom to impart. Let’s have a look and listen.
Donghun proves time and time again how much of a skilled vocalist he is both in A.C.E and individually. Another facet of his vocal prowess is showcased in duets. His work with Sonnet is gorgeous (you will recall both Shallow and Little Do You Know). But, I particularly enjoy when he pairs up with one of his A.C.E brothers. So, how about another Vocal Magic moment? Oh yes . . . let’s check out the time our two elders (the ’93 liners) paired up to cover d.ear and NCT Jaehyun’s melodic ballad, Try Again.
With 576 estimated days remaining in Donghun’s service, I can guarantee one thing for certain that will happen during this countdown and that is my never-ending praise for the glorious HJZM:The Butterfly Phantasy era and Donghun’s top knot. The richness in style, colors, and the blend of past with present fashion was an indelible sight to behold. I stumbled across artist Vansiee on Twitter and immediately fell in love with her work and particularly her Donghun art – but, I am rather biased you know. I wish I could say that what happens on VLive, stays on VLive but the entire MO of our fave artists going live on their respective VLive channels is getting the opportunity to be spontaneous and, for the most part, unscripted. I have no doubt that rookie groups are diligently watched over during any kind of live broadcast. However from their earliest days, I have always got the impression that A.C.E has had a great deal of autonomy, and I am confident Beat knows they would never go completely off the rails during a live broadcast! In the VLive clip I share today, Donghun gets the 411 from fans during his June 4, 2019 VLive that leader Jun not only ate Donghun’s jellies, he also rummaged through his bag. How will Dong Dong retaliate?!
I knew our patience would be rewarded. On the eve of his 60th day of service, our beloved main vocal updated his Instagram account. What is so nice about public service is the tiny bit of leniency enlistees get when it comes to using their SNS accounts. True, Donghun can’t be posting those multiple selcas on the various A.C.E SNS accounts, but his personal one is where he can quietly stay in touch. On November 20, he updated with a series of pictures which included ones of himself.
I have a simple mission with the DH One Shots and that is to quickly with great economy offer a variety of Donghun looks, attitudes, moods, styles and fashion. He hit all five of those nouns gloriously during the HJZM:The Butterfly Phantasy era. And with lethal acuity I might add. So for this Day 59 One Shot gif, one of my absolute favorite look, attitude, mood, style and fashion.
