The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 285

As far as I am concerned, if a vocalist can hold the melody of a song in his (or her) voice and voice alone, and still sound good, that’s a skilled vocalist. Probably why I admire vocalists who can sing a cappella. Keeping everything in pitch while conveying passion and emotion – yes, that’s a gift. When I come across some G.O vocals with the music track removed, I feel vindicated in my belief that he is an extremely skilled vocalist (in addition to the evident artistry in how interprets music) who is tragically underrated and not nearly appreciated enough – in my opinion any way. So yes, I am hitting the countdown with another Vocal Virtuosity moment. This time I travel back to that playful moment in July 2011 during a MBC’s Shim Shim Tapa radio broadcast where G.O effortlessly belts out one of my absolute faves from Mona Lisa,  알면서 그래 [I Think You Know] and in this particular recording, the music track was removed so we can hear his effervescent, clear, strong and beautiful voice. The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 255

I have to admit that I admire the balance of strength and softness that houses itself so effortlessly in G.O. He exudes a masculinity that is always present and evident, but it is never threatening or chauvinistic. Perhaps it is because he has surrendered himself to his softer side, embraces it, and is not afraid to reveal it. Am I the only one who finds this extremely attractive? I have not met very many men like this and perhaps this is why I am so smitten with G.O. I have to believe that development of this delicate balance came early, when he was a child perhaps. Moreover, I have to believe it had something to do with how he was nurtured. I have to believe it started with family.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 234

It seems abundantly clear to me that G.O indeed got the memo to bring every ounce of beautiful with him to perform at the 17 January 2012 MBC Beautiful Concert. In fact, it is almost too much beautiful to endure. It is Day 234 of G.O’s service and it seems as good a time as any to bring a beautiful pictures and fan-camming moment to the blog. Come…let’s immerse.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 233

There were countless numbers of pictures that were published of MBLAQ when they came back with their 8th mini album Mirror in June 2015. And as we were so ravenous to see them, it was fortunate that cameras were often in the vicinity every day during promotions. Apart from absolutely loving the music, I really appreciated the toned down sophisticated feel of Seung Ho, G.O and Mir’s visual presentation of their new material.  Wearing soft, muted tones of black, grey, white or blue, there was an elegance in the clean and comfortable lines of the clothes they wore, especially G.O.

Light can be defined without sun.
Sweetness can be defined without honey.
Fragrance can be defined without a rose, but beauty cannot be defined without you.

At the close of 2013, I was well on my journey into falling deeply under G.O’s spell. It was fortunate in that there was much to look forward to in the new year, specifically an MBLAQ comeback, complete with a Japanese single release as well as two starring roles for our up and coming musical actor, G.O. Before the release of Broken and subsequent promotions, and before G.O’s Korean musical theater debut in Seopyeonje, the men of MBLAQ took part in a WAPOP concert at the Dome Art Hall of the Seoul Children’s Grand Park. Too much beautiful on the stage that day. Too much.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 207

Episode 158 of SBS’s 도전 1000 곡 [1000 Song Challenge] aired on 7 August 2011 and could have aptly been retitled I Challenge You Not to Fall For G.O Tonight. Well, at least that is how I felt when I watched him sing Kim Min Woo’s 사랑일뿐야 [It’s Only Love]. Winsome and dreamy, and in remarkably under two minutes, G.O invites you into his heart where it is easy to nestle in and get lost in the warmth of his tender voice.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 178

It should come as no surprise that I am choosing to capitalize on the fact that we are in the middle of the 2016 Summer Olympics currently under way in Brazil. Indeed, as much as I love the artistic side of G.O (always), I rather enjoy watching his athletic pursuits as well. In the spirit of the Olympics, I decided to revisit MBLAQ’s participation in the 6th Idol Star Athletics ~ Archery Championship from early 2013. Even though our beloved men of MBLAQ came up short and ultimately lost to ZE:A in the archery finals, it is not going to detract from the fact that G.O is one very able archer.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 177

Do you feel like escaping with me today to a sweet spot in a song? Yes sometimes a few short lines in one song have the power to transport and soothe. Of course, the relaxant effect of a song is compounded when the lyrics are being masterfully delivered in a mellifluous melody by a vocalist who understands that of the many elements that comprise a song, it is a vocalist’s honest connect with the thought, meaning and emotion of that song that will indeed capture and move an audience. I believe G.O understands this concept to his core, and why his short interlude between the sharp rap attack in Taw and HaHa’s 내 품이 좋다던사람 [The Person By My Side] reminds us that underneath the hurt and pain of a break up, the heart has a resilience that always seems to be able to weather the storms of love.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 169

There are moments when I watch G.O perform where I am convinced music is a drug. A heady intoxicant that invades the system of not only the audience, but him as well. I have often wrote about the power a song has over him and how he is held captive by it until the final note. I have called music his muse, his mistress, and his constant. But I think this is the first time I am calling it his drug. I guess there was something extra special about his dreamy eyes during the 11 September 2011 special stage performance on Inkigayo where he and Sistar’s Hyorin joined forces to sing Vibe’s 그남자 그여자 [That Man That Woman] that made me feel the intoxication.
