Episode 158 of SBS’s 도전 1000 곡 [1000 Song Challenge] aired on 7 August 2011 and could have aptly been retitled I Challenge You Not to Fall For G.O Tonight. Well, at least that is how I felt when I watched him sing Kim Min Woo’s 사랑일뿐야 [It’s Only Love]. Winsome and dreamy, and in remarkably under two minutes, G.O invites you into his heart where it is easy to nestle in and get lost in the warmth of his tender voice.
There are 524 more days left of G.O’s service. Each one of those 524 days is another opportunity for me to pummel share with you my love and admiration for him. I am sharing nothing new – well, unless he continues his quiet sweet survival report updates via profile picture updates. Those indeed would be new and I will always feel compelled to share. No, this Countdown series is nothing more than a retrospective where I am looking back on G.O’s career and logging some extensive fangirl hours as a result (and hopefully winning him even more admirers).^^
With so much to share due to his all around talent, I think my favorite will always be G.O’s music (and musical theater). Of course I love him in drama, variety, endorsements, event appearances, and the like. But, it is his music and his voice that captured my heart. Reminiscing over his past performances really does make me hungry for his future projects. It is difficult, but I will practice patience.
In the meantime, it is nice to journey the path from the past to where he is now. G.O’s lovely (albeit short) rendition of 사랑일뿐야 [It’s Only Love] is a perfect place to pause and to drink in the sweetness not only in his voice, but also in his resplendent smile that, at the close of his performance goes from woo to wow in a millisecond.
Watching G.O perform….in anything…is experiencing talent, charisma and charm collide. I am not sure he fully understands (or perhaps simply underestimates) how wonderfully balanced and well-rounded of an artist he truly is.
Thankfully, the rest of us certainly are quite cognizant of it and have no difficulty in reminding him of such. There is no drama, movie, play or novel that has captured my attention in the way G.O’s love affair with music has. And, these little gems of micro performances throughout his career are constant reminders that his mistress ~~>music, loves him as deeply and passionately in return.
