The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 425

I particularly love today’s offering for the G.O One Shot. For the past ten days I have sprinkled the countdown with moments revisiting G.O’s time on the musical stage as well as celebrating his arrival to the silver screen with his film debut in 아바는 딸 [Dad is Daughter]. I cannot deny that my favorite aspect of G.O’s artistry is his music; however, I am enamored of his ability to take the joy and pain he has experienced, the ups and downs of life, the struggles and the triumphs, and let them all simmer deep in the well of his artistic soul ultimately manifesting themselves through him as an actor.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 419

Ok, I think I am back on schedule with the G.O One Shots. I decided that with just a little over 300 days left (312, to be exact), I am going to be less stringent with some of the parameters I have set for myself here on the Countdown. Much like our serene music man, I am going to relax and let things effortlessly flow. Today’s flow is all about the 14 January 2012 Music Core performance of the powerful 전쟁이야 [This Is War]. I cannot help but turn this one shot .gif day into a multi-shot .gif day. See, I am happily stepping outside of the One Shot boundaries, it and feels good.~^^

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 411

The Pure Love feels were reignited recently when a picture popped up on Instagram (compliments of goldentime_company) featuring G.O with two of his co-stars from the 2013 drama, 일말의 순정 [Pure/Remaining Love]. It is fortunate for us that we will soon get an opportunity to see G.O back on the screen (in his film debut this month!!) but as we (im)patiently wait for that moment, it is always nice to revisit his work in past dramas. Oh nostalgia is so very sweet in the form of the lovable Choi Min Soo.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 406

Tonight 우리 사이 어떻게 하죠
[Tonight, what do we do about our relationship?]
자꾸 화만 내는 그대가
[You keep getting mad]
이제는 더 지쳐 가네요
[And I’m getting tired of it now]
나는 정말 어떡해요 난
[What should I do?]

These are words I would think no one would ever want to hear from their beloved. It is a pierce to the heart alone hearing them from G.O; yet, he is dutifully in charge of those lyrics in the lithe and rhythmic break up song, 우리 사이 [Our Relationship], from MBLAQ’s masterpiece 6th mini album, Broken. Even though it is heartbreaking for me to hear G.O sing these words, my ears incessantly argue with my heart. G.O’s vocals are mellifluous and flawless, with his improvisational runs particularly beautiful. With that, even though this is a gorgeous group effort, I still place it squarely in the G.O Vocal Virtuosity category here on the countdown.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 405

While it is true that G.O has had a lot of experience being the younger brother, much of that experience comes from being the younger brother of two older sisters. Outside of perhaps his peers and well, yes of course, his brother-in-law, he has not been the younger brother to an older brother. And before you Seungholics start screaming that indeed G.O has been and is a younger brother, I will say that I see your point; but really guys, Seung Ho is only three weeks to-the-day older than G.O. I think those two perhaps view themselves on more of an equal playing field. Nevertheless, I believe with all of my heart that G.O views Seung Ho as a brother (and an older one at that) not only in the colleague/peer sense, but in a family sense. Where am I going with this you might ask? Well, since I have been showing Tykeys quite a bit of love as of late, I wanted to touch on an early younger/older brother experience. G.O was Tykeys’ maknae after all and Kim Hyun Jung indeed his hyung. When I look at early pictures of the two, as well as their overall dynamic, I am convinced G.O endeared Hyun Jung as a more than just a band mate, he was indeed family and yes, an older brother. The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 401

Quietly and gently today, I want to revisit the tender Still in Love. I remember being so excited about the release of this single back in February 2014 because I had just joined the fandom and I was getting to experience the release of new music from MBLAQ for the first time. True, it was not as exciting as the upcoming Broken promotions that followed, but for me it was very special in any event and I guess it kind of prepared me for the bigger stage and excitement of the group’s comeback. Plus, you have to remember, my attention by then was securely focused on G.O as I was preparing to travel to Seoul to see him for the very first time. When I listen to Still In Love, I am transported back to those early days of first discovery. Sigh….so special. Anyway, before I get too overly sentimental here (too late!), let’s travel to Osaka and a focused fan cam of G.O as the group performed this sweet ballad back on 13 March 2014. It is Fan-Camming Friday after all!

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 396

Before I add any G.O-inspired episode excerpts from Kim Soo Ro’s 명문대 특별반 엠블랙 [Special Class In An Elite University] to the countdown, I just want to enjoy the promotional pictures that were being circulated back in July 2010 when it was announced that MBLAQ would be joining Soo Ro on his program. It is Sunday and I don’t want to over do it!! Studious looking (once again those eyeglass frames – I think I am a little bit obsessed at the moment), wearing a cheeky vest and bow tie, G.O embraced his inner quirky college student persona and let all of that cute wrapped in some ridiculous handsome come out to play during the promotional photo shoot.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 390

I am not going to deny that when I praise G.O, some (if not all) of those accolades have been stated more than once. I like to praise him, have you noticed? I happen to think he is rather praise-worthy. I know that I have repeatedly stated how much I admire the way in which G.O connects to music. It will always be one of my favorite things about him. But what about the way he connects with fans? I think I have mentioned that kind of connect a few times in various posts also. It too is one of my favorite things about G.O. Then again, my list of favorites is chapters deep. In a recent rewatch of a G.O-focused cam taken during MBLAQ’s mini outdoor fan meeting on 11 September 2011, I became so taken with the G.O fan connect effect that I wanted to share that moment here on Day 390 as a wonderful example of G.O’s Fabled Fan Service.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 388

Is :56 seconds of G.O singing an excerpt from a ballad sufficient enough to place it here on the Countdown in the Vocal Virtuosity category? You bet it is. Back in May 2010, just prior to the release of MBLAQ’s second mini album Y, MBLAQ’s handsome hyung line made a stop at the MNET radio studios. In under a minute, the combination of G.O’s voice accompanied by Seung Ho’s piano continually proves to me that these two artists were perhaps always destined to work together. Indeed, this post can hold equal weight in the Heavenly Collaborations category.
