70 days!!! Seriously, the days are flying by!! After grabbing his first win on the Immortal Song 2 stage, I would suspect that G.O began to really settle into the competition. Even as humble as he is and (at times) self-doubting, I think his competitive juices were really beginning to fire up. Maintaining his ability to innovate, G.O duly wowed both audience and legend Kim Wan Sun with his jazzy rendition of her 오늘밤 [Tonight].

By 2011 and well into their second full year as a group, MBLAQ was indelibly embraced (and rightfully so) by Japan; their JA+ fandom strong and growing. They were gaining so much popularity and love in Japan that Odina Magazine featured them not once, not twice, but three times in 2011. One year, three cover stories. Too much……wait, no, there can never ever be too much G.O!!

Standing here in disarray
A calm serenity
The winds of change can devastate
And it took this much for me
I feel that the songs that G.O chooses to sing (that are not among his own compositions) are not arbitrarily chosen. I may not have logged ample study time of this incredible artist of a man in comparison to many in the fandom, but from what I have experienced thus far, I am pretty confident in stating there is reason, depth and substance in G.O’s choices to sing the songs he chooses to sing. And most definitely a resonance with the reason. Eric Benét’s Hurricane is one of those songs.

I truly enjoyed the whole of 유령 [Ghost], but admit that the draw for me was seeing G.O in the drama. Even though he did not have a whole bunch of screen time, he made the best of the scenes he did grace, notably so in the drunk dinner scene of Episode 16.

Any man with a soft spot for animals will forever hold a permanent soft spot in my heart. Not that G.O needs to do anything further to win my heart, mind you. But I do love that he has a genuine appreciation for our friends from the animal kingdom, and they seem to like him as well.

This playful (and ever-so thoughtful) namja!! G.O’s public service post while in the military allows for some leniency in his day to day activities which can include occasional (and within certain parameters) sns updates. Still, without posting a single word, our delightful main vocal simply updated his profile pictures on his Instagram and Twitter accounts on April 18th and in doing so, said hello to his adoring fans letting us all know that he is doing just fine.

August 20, 2011 was the Actors Special night on Immortal Song 2. When I watch the opening of 여행올떠나요 [Let’s Take A Trip], I cannot help but wonder what the entire song would have sounded like had G.O and his partner for the evening Jo Yeo Jung, sang it entirely in the bluesy manner in which G.O opened it. Oooooh….I could tell G.O was feeling those first couple of lines in the song and think he would have wanted to test those bluesy waters indeed, if given the opportunity.

I know I incessantly lament (more like whine) over the fact that I discovered MBLAQ later than most in their fandom. There is something truly special and exciting about experiencing the moment a song is released, catching a real-time red carpet appearance, or even seeing the first photo or video of a photo shoot. The upside is that somewhere most of these past events have been safely secured on the internet. Bless!!

It is hard to imagine that in previous productions of the musical 바람의나라 [The Kingdom of the Winds] that the part of Prince Ho Dong’s spirit animal, the Phoenix 병아 리 [Byungari – baby chicken, or chick] was played by a male actor. Inasmuch as I believe Byungari was really neither male nor female specifically, I could not imagine any one better opposite G.O in the part than Kim Hye Won. Hence, I will refer to the Phoenix as a she.
