The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 511

It is the middle of the week so why not a little Fan-ART-astic fan art today? It is Day 511. Can you believe that in less than a month’s time, G.O will have under 200 days left to serve? Each day I feel the excitement growing. Seriously, sometimes I feel like I am five years old! It is probably that child-like wonder in me that really appreciates fan art. I know I have said this before, but if I could draw, my model of choice would be G.O. However, since I cannot, I will continue to ardently admire those who do. Today’s offering comes from the incredibly prolific Victoria Dmitrieva, also known as SakuTori.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 510

Back on Day 474, I took a look at G.O’s airport style as MBLAQ headed to Bangkok on 13 March 2013 for a live concert performance. The men returned to Seoul four days later. Once again, G.O’s airport style was full of comfort with ever-present class and elegance. Every day in every way, G.O makes casual look so good.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 509

Sometimes the best captures in picture form are those wherein the subject is unaware a camera is being pointed at him or her. Even though G.O is pretty keen on locating cameras in a crowd, there are many times when he is not particularly paying attention. Don’t get me wrong, I love, love, LOVE when he locks eyes with a camera’s lens (especially those cameras being operated by fans). However, I love the oblivious ones as well because they sometimes capture a thoughtful, quiet or reflective moment. My One Shot for today is one of those captures.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 508

I admit that the closer we get to G.O’s discharge day, the more anxious I become over what he will do when he returns. My list for him is long <hehehe> as I would love to see him pursue many things. To me, G.O has an all encompassing talent that will allow him to explore many different artistic genres. At the foundation of it all is without question: music. With so many avenues of music that stretch beyond singing, G.O’s opportunities will be many. As he is no stranger to the OST, I hope that we will hear more of his work as both a vocalist and composer for many future OSTs. In the meantime, I would like to revisit a clip of his beautiful ballad from the Dr. Stranger OST, 내일이 안 올 것처럼 [Like Tomorrow Won’t Come] in a cappella form. A true Vocal Virtuosity moment.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 507

There are a million ways in which I could show you how humble G.O is. But you really only need to meet him to experience it. In my opinion, humbleness is something that cannot be faked. It is either a part of who you are, or it is not. Some may mistake humbleness as self-doubt or low self-worth. But being humble is different. Markers of self-doubt or self-worth might include phrases like, I can’t or I am not good enough. Whereas I believe humbleness may be marked by phrases such asI will work harder or I will learn and improve, even in the wake of accolades. G.O has been told countless times from fans, contemporaries, producers, directors, and the like that he possesses a unique and special talent; yet he always reminds us that he will try harder or do better. This could not have been better demonstrated than when he received the 8th Korean Musical Awards award for best newcomer actor for his portrayal of the tragic young pansori artist Dong Ho in Seopyeonje.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 506

Fridays are fabulous for so many reasons, wouldn’t you agree? For most they mark the end of the work week and the start of the weekend, and that would include our hard-working military man, Byung Hee. I am sure he treasures the reprieve of those two wonderful weekend days so that he can rest, relax and nurture his creativity. Fridays are fun for me because they are fan-camming days here on the Countdown. Granted, I have slipped in many a cam throughout the weeks on days other than a Friday. It happens. Many of my sub-categories crossover into each other. In any event, it is another Fan-Camming Friday and for today a little Mona Lisa from a performance back in October 2012 at Gwangju Songwon University.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 505

I am really quite grateful that there have been many western songs that have resonated with G.O to the point where he has revisited them on several occasions, letting us hear them more than once. In the early part of his career there were many songs from the Eric Benét songbook that captured G.O’s attention. Beautiful ballads crafted perfectly in melody and lyric that he artfully made his own by wrapping them in his own velvety voice. We have heard G.O sing Benét’s The Last Time a few times. I think his 8 December 2009 T-Store Live Session performance rises above the rest. I revisit it today as a sort of throwback Thursday moment remembering the poise, elegance and exquisite talent of this astonishing young man.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 504

In keeping with the gentle flow from yesterday, my One Shot will ease right into that momentum with a .gif taken from the MV for G.O’s second digital single, Play That Song. Captivating and romantic, it is a wonderfully soothing way to help push us softly over the hump of the midweek and inch us closer to the weekend.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 503

I could take the easiest possible avenue here for the seventh letter of the alphabet by simply saying G is for G.O! It is perfectly logical and fitting for today’s post. There are so many possibilities: graceful, gracious, generous, gifted, gallant, and even the obvious, gorgeous. But I can go one simpler. Indeed, I want to choose a word that all others could claim is perhaps the foundation by which each found their way into the category of describing G.O. One that most likely defines him from core to surface. It is probably my favorite word to describe him and heaven knows you will easily find it in every single post I have written about him here on this blog. That word is gentle.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 502

By now you are probably aware that even the most limited number of musical notes that escape G.O will always constitute a Vocal Virtuosity moment for me here during this countdown series, as well as any other given time or place. Now that I have crossed over the 500 post mark, out of all of them, I think my favorites will always be the ones that contain G.O singing. Even the tiniest most shortest utterance. His voice is like a tonic for my soul that at times soothes and at others, excites. There is something about the short clip of Dress Up he shared during the 20 June 2013 broadcast of MBC’s Shim Shim TaPa that was a little bit of both.
