The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 185

I don’t know about anyone else, but I am getting excited over the fact that G.O will soon hit 200 days served of his military service. Considering he started at 730, I think it is safe to say that we are finally seeing some serious movement of time! Well, I know for some it still seems like an eternity until he is discharged. Be patient as he will be back with us soon enough. And, he has been faithfully giving us clandestine updates by way of changing his Twitter and Instagram profile pictures. What more can we ask for when he is keeping steady contact?

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 184

I think about 바람의나라 [The Kingdom of the Winds] often. I think about G.O ‘s incredible performance in the short and powerful run the show had back in May 2014.  I think about how important the role of Prince Ho Dong was for him and in many ways, how it most likely helped pave the way for other potential idol-turned-musical actors to be cast in a Seoul Arts Group production. I think about it all with incredible awe and fondness. And, I think about how special each curtain call must have felt for G.O when he stood upon the CJ Towol Theatre stage being appreciated for his courageous and tender performance.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 183

If G.O ever needed a side gig, he would have a lucrative career modeling jewelry. To be blunt, he has the perfect hands for rings, perfect wrists for watches and bracelets, perfectly proportionate ears for earrings and a neck that any necklace would enjoy draping itself around. Throughout his career, G.O has had the opportunity to endorse jewelry, but endorsements aside, I think the pieces he wears are just another extension of his eclectic style that can be edgy (Chrome Hearts, Maco Adamas) or classically sophisticated (Ingersoll, Lantz). Whatever the style, G.O proves that the jewelry he wears, wears him equally as well.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 182

When I made the commitment to write a post every day commemorating each day served of G.O military service, in theory it did not seem like it would be an arduous task. But I discovered that it has required an inordinate amount of discipline I was not even aware I had. As I write, I learn more about him and, in the wake of that, have learned a lot about myself. It has been a fantastic journey so far and I have to tell you, their is absolutely no downside. Getting to write about this talented young man is a privilege. Oh, and I get to see and/or hear him every day. Bonus! My Fan-Camming day posts are spaced ten days apart (if you haven’t noticed) which means today is a Fan-Camming day and bcause I have such a crush on A Lucky Day’s work, I will share her G.O-focused cam (and pictures) from the Men In Blaq show on 20 August 2011. Get ready for some G.O charm!

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 181

Although a classic break up song, there was still something very sweet about G.O singing a little bit of the chorus to Ne-yo’s So Sick at the SBS Tenten Club Public Broadcast on 14 February 2011, even if it was Valentine’s Day! I would be hard pressed to be sick of any love song on that day and even more reluctant to turn away from a song (break up or otherwise) sung by G.O. Just sayin’. I love that G.O revived a little of the song at the Tenten broadcast since it has most likely been a song on his personal playlist for some time. He covered it way back in his Tykeys days. So on this 181st day of his service, I am setting the dial to the Retro Room station to revisit G.O’s cover of So Sick.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 180

It has been 180 days. One hundred and eighty days served. I wonder if G.O is as diligent as his loving fans in monitoring days served since he entered training camp back on February 18th. I suppose he really doesn’t have to in that we are keeping pinpointed track of each day served and how many days remain. For some reason today (which is actually just a few days shy of the six month mark of his service), I found myself trying to seek out his performance of Yutaka Ozaki’s I Love You because I just felt like revisiting perhaps one his more romantic performances.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 179

As of today, we are three weeks away from G.O completing 200 days of his service! Soon we will be marking the half way point and even sooner, we will be celebrating his return. These days are moving at lightening speed. For today’s post, another G.O One Shot. I once again have to turn to the incredible camera work of A Lucky Day. <I’m obsessed!>

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 178

It should come as no surprise that I am choosing to capitalize on the fact that we are in the middle of the 2016 Summer Olympics currently under way in Brazil. Indeed, as much as I love the artistic side of G.O (always), I rather enjoy watching his athletic pursuits as well. In the spirit of the Olympics, I decided to revisit MBLAQ’s participation in the 6th Idol Star Athletics ~ Archery Championship from early 2013. Even though our beloved men of MBLAQ came up short and ultimately lost to ZE:A in the archery finals, it is not going to detract from the fact that G.O is one very able archer.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 177

Do you feel like escaping with me today to a sweet spot in a song? Yes sometimes a few short lines in one song have the power to transport and soothe. Of course, the relaxant effect of a song is compounded when the lyrics are being masterfully delivered in a mellifluous melody by a vocalist who understands that of the many elements that comprise a song, it is a vocalist’s honest connect with the thought, meaning and emotion of that song that will indeed capture and move an audience. I believe G.O understands this concept to his core, and why his short interlude between the sharp rap attack in Taw and HaHa’s 내 품이 좋다던사람 [The Person By My Side] reminds us that underneath the hurt and pain of a break up, the heart has a resilience that always seems to be able to weather the storms of love.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 176

While MBLAQ was still busy promoting their second mini album Y, Malaysian promotion, tour and event management company M.E Malaysia caught up with the gregarious bunch for a little getting to know you one-on-one session in a Gangnam-gu cafe late one night in July 2010. Even though they were exhausted from their hectic promotion schedule, the interview was playful and yielded some gorgeous pictures and one very cute video message to the Malaysian fans.
