The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 109

As much as I am missing G.O these days, I am at least grateful that Hello Baby is filled with so many adorably sweet and entertaining moments of him to look back on and enjoy. I am relatively confident I will be able to eke out quite a few more of those moments over the course of these next 622 days. Remember the Bibimbap Song?

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 106

The truth is so immersed in my heart . . .

After a seven month hiatus from the Immortal Song 2 stage, G.O returned on September 8, 2012, to sing Choi Sung Soo’s 후인. Borrowing the Latin flavor from Sung Soo’s 1988 original, G.O’s version stripped away the cha-cha beat, slowed it down and added a hauntingly lovely Spanish guitar. The stage was set for G.O to begin romancing the audience. Maybe it is just me, but I think you might agree that adding a Spanish guitar to a song immediately creates romance.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 94

After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.

February 4, 2012 was the second of two nights honoring legend Song Chang Sik. That night, G.O took to the Immortal Song 2 stage and sang the deeply moving 당신은 [You]. Never one to ever hold back, G.O was at his heart-wrenching best. A perfect storm of marrying majestic vocals with the absolute agony of love.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 92

I think I can forget you
I try to comfort myself like this
But after trying to get rid of these feelings again and again
My yearning for you is endless . . .

I have to wonder when G.O agreed to appear on the January 28, 2011 episode of You Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook, if he sat down with Hee Yeol and said, “I want to sing Kim Gun Mo’s 미련 [Lingering Affection],” or if it was decided by You Hee Yeol that he would, or perhaps the production team? My first inclination is to say G.O chose it because it is exactly the type of ballad our man with the golden voice has become a master at interpreting.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 91

Out of G.O’s collaborations outside of his work within the two groups he has been (and is) a member, one of my favorites is his guest appearance on J.ae’s single, 끝을 말할순없어도 [Even If We Can’t Speak Of The End]. This gentle ballad gave the charming G.O a break from his main vocal duties with MBLAQ to once again showcase his tender honeyed voice in a duet atmosphere.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 88

The November 19, 2011 broadcast of Immortal Song 2 was a particularly competitive one. It was the King of Kings Special episode where the contestants sang one of the songs that brought them a previous win and everyone surely brought their A-game to the show that evening. G.O returned with Kim Su Hee’s 못 잊겠어요 [I Can’t Forget] and it was every bit as smooth and jazzy as the night he first sang it back on August 13th.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 86

Do you ever watch G.O and get lost in his forever playfulness? *Sigh* The early days following debut were the best. I still go back and forth emotionally wishing I was there from the beginning but understanding that when I discovered this gem of a man, it was exactly when I was supposed to arrive to the fandom. Still, being able to have experienced the early variety days real-time had to be pretty much priceless. Day 86 has me traveling back to the Y era and GOMTV’s Making The Artist.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 82

If there hadn’t been that sea between you and me
There might not have been the bitter goodbye . . .

Those are some very powerful lyrics to open a song. Add the tender voice of G.O and they become that much more powerful, emotional and heartbreaking. Ah….but that is his intention, isn’t it? To touch your heart when he sings. To make you feel something. On the evening of September 10, 2011, G.O made his tenth visit to the Immortal Song 2 stage and sang Nam Jin’s 가슴 아프계 [Heartbreakingly] to perhaps one of the most hushed audiences I have ever witnessed. Hushed in awe.
