The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 359

Let me just cut to the chase for this Fan-Camming Friday by saying that anytime a fan cam features an accidental flash of otherwise covered up skin and a wink, along with outstanding vocals and provocative choreography, it easily reaches that gold standard of fan camming. This is my choice for Day 359 ~ one week from the year marker of G.O’s service. A cam from amazing masternim letsgoinho taken at the Human Target Awards on 22 November 2011.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 358

Over the past few days I have been giving lots and lots of love to G.O’s past involvement with the neo-soul R&B trio, Tykeys. It is part of his past that I feel was an incredible stepping stone to get him where he is today and not just musically. I think G.O’s time spent with Baek Soo Kyung and Kim Hyun Jung gave him experience and direction that supported and indeed fueled his creativity. He learned about synergy and collaboration which I believe every artist needs, and which he has become keenly adept at. My G.O One Shot for today is a little homage to G.O’s Tykeys stage presence, in .gif form.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 357

In 1985, I made my first journey to Fairmont, Indiana. A friend and I drove from Chicago in a blue and white 1957 Chevy Bel Air two plus hours into America’s heartland. It was summertime and we were making our first visit to the hometown and burial place of the late and iconic actor of the 1950’s, James Dean. Thus began my love affair with the mercurial actor (proves in some small way I was always destined to be a fangirl ~ *smile*). Today is 8 February and is also James Dean’s birthday. Were he still alive, he would be celebrating his 86th. I can think of no better way to celebrate than being able to honor one of my all time favorite actors of the past with my new found favorite artist of the present. Today, my soulful countdown ode to G.O comes by way of his ode to James Dean.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 356

My recent time travel to 2007 keeps coaxing me back for more, and with good reason. I have denied myself the pleasure of sharing Tykeys’ 연상연하 [Old and Young] for almost a year now. Yes…a year!! The second single from their amazing Ty Project No. 1 is a stand out neo-soul treasure all about (what some may deem) the forbidden love between a younger man and older woman. And as many of you know, there was a MV released along with the song…starring our dreamy main vocal as the leading ‘younger’ man.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 355

We are literally ten days away from seeing G.O complete his first full year of service. I know it is probably ridiculous, but I seem to be in a countdown within a countdown mode. Little mini milestones. When it comes to G.O I guess it does not take much to make me happy. Admittedly, being able to celebrate him daily has been a lot of fun and…I don’t know, I am always excited when I get to sit down and write about him. Today I will keep it simple ~ I always say that and then something happens and I shoot off like a firecracker…but I promise this time. Usually within the Windows To Your Soul: The G.O Eye Connect sub-category, I like to share a video. Today, I will simply share a couple of pictorial moments of his disarming eye connect from the Lotte World Angel Price Festival show back in April 2011.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 354

Things on my side of the world have been a little off and weird as of late due to our present political climate so I am grateful to have my little escape passage here on the blog in this countdown series. Every time I sit down to write about G.O it feels good. Even when I have to write about his interpretation of a particularly heartbreaking song or a devastatingly emotional moment from the musical stage, I always end up happy to have shined some light on his indomitable talent. Although everything about him makes me smile, his playful fan sign moments are special kinds of treasures. Today I share one from the Sexy Beat fan sign in Masan back on 20 July 2013.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 353

Way back on Day 245, I talked about the wonderful spring G.O was enjoying in 2014. With two critically acclaimed musicals and a comeback with MBLAQ, he was riding high and seeing quite a bit of press coverage which included landing on the cover of a couple of magazines. Pretty cool! Day 245 was a G.O One Shot day (like today). At that time, I shared a couple of beautiful shots from Campus Job & Joy and said I would not crowd that one shot post with all of the pictures contained in the article as each deserved its own moment to shine. Today is another One Shot day where I will let another moment from that May 2014 issue of Campus Job & Joy charm you.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 352

It is difficult to come by definitive and clear facts regarding everything there is to know about Tykeys. And I suppose that is all well and fine because what we do have in way of pictures and video prove to me that they were an incredibly talented neo-soul R&B sensation that simply did not get the recognition they deserved. However bad the situation was when things ended for the group, it does not take away from the fact that they gave us some incredible music in one amazing album. For this 352nd day of G.O’s service, (and Fan-Camming Friday day), I share a moment of solo work from those early days. A clip of our soulful crooner backed by a live band singing one of his favorites, Wildflower.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 351

When I declare that MBLAQ’s amazing main vocal man G.O can sing anything, I mean it. Arguably, there are times when I may slip into some gentle exaggeration on certain things. However, when it comes to G.O’s voice and talent, I often feel that I do not say enough for I find it difficult sometimes to express how amazing I honestly believe he is. His journey fascinates me and I feel he has only scratched the surface of what he can do with his talent and that his evolution continues. Before I get too emotional here let’s refocus. Let’s go back to the Human Culture Awards, a perfect Throwback Thursday/Heavenly Collaboration (well, sort of) moment in December 2009 when our charming balladeer took a detour and let the tones of his mellifluous voice tickle us with some vintage trot.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 350

I suppose it is rather obvious that I have been having deep (and perhaps emotional) longing to travel back in time to the spring of 2014 when everything seemed to be wonderfully in place for both G.O in his independent pursuits on the musical stage, as well as with MBLAQ as they settled into promoting their 6th (and truly brilliant) mini album, Broken. I left Seoul in mid-April of that year after a lengthy stay, and therefore missed the impromptu meet & greet G.O held in the lobby of the Universal Arts Theater on 5 May 2014. I was momentarily disappointed when I learned of that meet & greet, but that dissipated quickly as I reminded myself how fortunate I was in any event to have experienced not only G.O’s amazing fan service, but his incredible performance in 서편제 [Seopyeonje]. It is Day 350 and seems like a great day to celebrate G.O’s Fabled Fan Service as he met with fans back on that sunny day in early May.
