The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 24

A good song will always stand the test of time. This is something that G.O understands explicitly. His penchant for tender ballads written and recorded well before he was even a glint in his parents’ eyes is proof that the soul that resides in him has most probably been here before, and has felt love and loss, often.

I don’t know what year it was, or how old G.O was when he woke up one day and decided that he wanted to be an artist.  Yes……artist. Calling him a singer is simply not enough. I honestly believe that in the very beginning, when he was just starting out, even then he aspired to be more. He aspired to be an artist. And what is true of all (regardless of medium), artists have an insatiable need to create.

I can think of so many things NOW that I wish I would have asked G.O when I stood before him last July at the fan signs in Seoul. When did you write your first song? Was it a ballad? Do you remember the title? Can you sing it for me now? >< (Well, ok, that would be pushing it….hehehehe!) Meaningful questions though about how (and why) he decided, and became an artist.

Every time I hear a song that was either written by G.O, composed by G.O or written AND composed by G.O, it only makes me hungry for more. His credited written and/or composed songs did not just come to pass once he became a member of MBLAQ. It happened much sooner and for purposes of this post, I am going to share one for sure that he did write before he became a member of MBLAQ; a song he wrote while in Tykeys that ended up on their debut (and only album), Ty Project No. 1.

The song entitled, 한번만 [which can translate to onceonce moreonce and for all] was written by G.O (then Jang Goon) and composed by Jeon Sang Hwan. It is a slice of neo soul heaven. I wrote a little bit about it in my It Takes Deux post, but I am going to share the audio here once again because it is just so good. And seriously, this is a song that you could easily hear on the radio today as if it were written by him just yesterday.

G.O and Su singing the words he wrote………L.O.V.E.

Michele, I have wondered those same questions about him writing and composing. And have quite a bit of interest in that side of his “art”.. and I wonder if after his Military Service he’ll concentrate even more on this creative side of the music business.
I hope some day in the future, you get a “second chance” to ask him for us!
