My infatuation with G.O’s eyes continue, even if he dare only show us one. For some reason, showing only one eye during some of the Mona Lisa promotions and performances in the summer of 2011 proved to be ever mysterious and absolutely alluring, particularly at the MTV Cyworld Music Festival Dream 2011. Lucky were those who pointed their cams and cameras on him and were able to capture the attention of that one very lone soft and mesmerizing eye. I would like to ease into this Monday, this 397th day of G.O’s service, with the soft gaze of his eyes, the windows . . . or in this case, window to his soul.
And with a long and satisfying sigh . . . I can officially say that G.O has completed one full year of his two year military obligation and that he has exactly 365 days remaining. It has been an absolute honor celebrating this incredible young man every day since he entered training camp back on 18 February 2016. In its own little way, each day has almost been like a prayer of gratitude for me. Each day a small way to be thankful that G.O has shared his artistry, his kindness, his charm and his own humble graciousness so very generously with all of us. For today’s very meaningful celebration, I just want to share a little bit of G.O’s angelic presence from MNet’s July 2011 Wide Open Studio on this celebratory Fan-Camming Friday day.
Let me just cut to the chase for this Fan-Camming Friday by saying that anytime a fan cam features an accidental flash of otherwise covered up skin and a wink, along with outstanding vocals and provocative choreography, it easily reaches that gold standard of fan camming. This is my choice for Day 359 ~ one week from the year marker of G.O’s service. A cam from amazing masternim letsgoinho taken at the Human Target Awards on 22 November 2011.
In 1985, I made my first journey to Fairmont, Indiana. A friend and I drove from Chicago in a blue and white 1957 Chevy Bel Air two plus hours into America’s heartland. It was summertime and we were making our first visit to the hometown and burial place of the late and iconic actor of the 1950’s, James Dean. Thus began my love affair with the mercurial actor (proves in some small way I was always destined to be a fangirl ~ *smile*). Today is 8 February and is also James Dean’s birthday. Were he still alive, he would be celebrating his 86th. I can think of no better way to celebrate than being able to honor one of my all time favorite actors of the past with my new found favorite artist of the present. Today, my soulful countdown ode to G.O comes by way of his ode to James Dean.
I knew going into this project, this countdown of the days G.O was away fulfilling his mandatory military service, that he would provide me with more than enough moments to share of his talent, creativity, humor, and intellect than days he had to serve. The best part of this journey is when I look at a blank entry in my countdown log and have a moment of anxiety thinking what do I write about today? Without fail, something always arrives to the doorstep of my mind…or perhaps heart, and another day sees a little bit more of G.O’s magic. A couple days ago I introduced another little sub-category to the mix which I labeled Impromptu Melodies. The one I have for today can also easily be stored on the Vocal Virtuosity shelf. It is Thursday so we can throwback a little here to August 2011 and an impromptu moment on 도전 1000곡 [1000 Song Challenge] with our vocal virtuoso and a little Mona Lisa.
These days are moving so fast, I sometimes I cannot seem to keep up. What I like about G.O One Shot days is that they give me a chance to catch my creative breath. One Shots are not so demanding. Nevertheless, they still deserve as much of my love and attention as any other offering here! Today a little fan art.
As far as I am concerned, if a vocalist can hold the melody of a song in his (or her) voice and voice alone, and still sound good, that’s a skilled vocalist. Probably why I admire vocalists who can sing a cappella. Keeping everything in pitch while conveying passion and emotion – yes, that’s a gift. When I come across some G.O vocals with the music track removed, I feel vindicated in my belief that he is an extremely skilled vocalist (in addition to the evident artistry in how interprets music) who is tragically underrated and not nearly appreciated enough – in my opinion any way. So yes, I am hitting the countdown with another Vocal Virtuosity moment. This time I travel back to that playful moment in July 2011 during a MBC’s Shim Shim Tapa radio broadcast where G.O effortlessly belts out one of my absolute faves from Mona Lisa, 알면서 그래 [I Think You Know] and in this particular recording, the music track was removed so we can hear his effervescent, clear, strong and beautiful voice. It is Day 275 of G.O’s service!! Do you realize that in less than a month he will hit the 300 day mark?! If you had any doubts that time would actually move swiftly, think again. You have to agree with me when I say the days are flying by! Even G.O mentioned during his recent chat that the time was going by quickly. For 274 days I have been doing my best to make everyone fall for G.O. How am I doing? It’s One Shot .gif day today so I went and dug up a Mona Lisa era performance of 알면서 그래 [I Think You Know] and created a swoon-worthy .gif. Well, I think it is swoon-worthy!
After MBLAQ’s rather successful Blaq% Asia Tour in 2012 (and particularly so in Japan), it was decided that the group would release a Japanese version of Mona Lisa and it was sensory overload. The one thing a physical CD can give us over its digital counterpart is beautiful packaging coupled photo books and photo cards that are artfully produced and which become treasured artifacts. For Day 272 of G.O’s service, I feel like revisiting the Three Shades of Japanese Mona Lisa.
I am feeling particularly fan-girly today and offer a Mona Lisa era selca for Day 260 of G.O’s service. G.O during the Mona Lisa era ~~~> so sultry and mysterious. With his long bangs covering one of his deep and gorgeous eyes, this style with its alluring mystique created perhaps one of G.O’s most provocative looks.
