The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 452

As I was so very enchanted by G.O’s performance in Seopyeonje while in Seoul back in April 2014, I almost missed the announcement of him being single-cast in the role of Prince Hodong in 바람의나라 [The Kingdom of the Winds]. Admittedly, I was so focused on G.O’s musical of the moment and it wasn’t until I returned home that it hit me how hard he was working as rehearsals for Kingdom began while Seopyeonje was still running and, even more important, while he still had a number of remaining performances. Still, the buzz of G.O being the first artist from Korean popular music to be cast in the demanding role of Prince Hodong, and the first to perform with the prestigious Seoul Arts Group, was electric.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 450

On 11 May 2014, G.O stepped into the role of the gentle and innocent Prince Hodong in 바람의나라 [The Kingdom of the Winds] for the first performance of the show’s run, marking another first: this was the first time an artist from Korean popular music had set foot on the Seoul Arts Center stage with the prestigious Seoul Arts Group in a musical theater production. I recall waiting for the pics and cams – but more importantly, wanted to hear about his performance which of course grew accolades from his adoring A+ in the audience that evening. I want to celebrate that night of firsts for G.O with a short fan cam of his first curtain call on the Seoul Arts Center stage that evening.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 449

It was three years ago this very day when G.O would once again step upon the Korean musical theater stage and make history by way of his poignant portrayal of the young and innocent Prince Ho Dong in the Seoul Arts production of 바람의나라 [The Kingdom of the Winds]. Inasmuch as I truly feel his role as Dong Ho in Seopyeonje was the pivotal moment in his career that made fans and critics alike sit up and take notice of his ability to command an important role in a masterpiece musical, his work in Kingdom sealed it. For today’s G.O One Shot, I honor him on the anniversary of his first performance as the delicate Ho Dong.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 441

I have to be honest, I am finding it difficult to concentrate on what I want to write about for this post because that picture up there is mesmerizing me to the point of distraction. For me, there is so much perfect going on in that picture from G.O’s gorgeous profile, elegant and graceful hand, to the black suit jacket and tie (I don’t know what it is about G.O in a suit that just unhinges me, but it does). Framed by the glow of the stage lights, he looked so at ease as he moved through the choreography of 전쟁이야 [This Is War] back on 17 May 2013 during MBLAQ’s Japan Mona Lisa Event. Today, I open The J-Files treasure chest to look back on the short and oh-so-sweet promotion of the release of MBLAQ’s Japanese version of Mona Lisa.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 439

The premise was simple – complete an athletic task and the crowd (which was predominately, if not all, comprised of your fan base) would be rewarded for your success. Seems easy, right? Well, it proved to be somewhat challenging ~ albeit entertaining ~ for our fit and fab main vocal man when he had to become a rhythmic gymnast for the day as part of KBS2’s athletic variety program Let’s Go! Dream Team.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 436

I am not quite ready to leave MBLAQ’s participation in the K-Pop Heal The World show in Singapore back in June 2011. Moving from the lovely selca yesterday and into Fan-Camming Friday,  I found a short clip of a G.O-focused cam captured at the very end of MBLAQ’s performance of 다시 [Again]. Short like in 20 seconds short. That is short. But it is Friday and everyone should be eager to start the weekend, right? I will even try to keep my words at a minimum. <~~~ Is that even possible?

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 435

Since it is Thursday, I suppose a little bit of a throwback moment is in order. I will do it with the help of my G.O’s Selca Magic category and dig deep into the treasure chest of those ever-winning selcas, traveling back to June 2011 when G.O and the men of MBLAQ were in Singapore for the K-Pop Heal The World Concert.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 432

Before I get this post rolling let me take a moment to scream: G.O HAS UNDER 300 DAYS REMAINING IN HIS SERVICE!! Yes, this is Day 432 which on the opposite end of a more logical countdown equals 299 days remaining. I know I am the only person counting up instead of down. But somehow counting the days completed feels more like an accomplishment, especially considering there are a total of 730 days in G.O’s service that need to be completed. And ok, 299 days is still quite a ways away, but here we are at Day 432 already. Time is moving quickly. Today, I am feeling particularly fangirly. When my inner fangirl comes out to play, she loves to experience a Windows to Your Soul ~ The G.O Eye Connect moment and the one I choose for today comes from the SBS Hope Concert back on 4 May 2012.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 430

It was exactly four months ago today that I had an In The Practice Room With Tykeys moment here on the Countdown and I recall at that time that I wanted to save Tykeys’ rehearsal of 연상연하 [Old & Young] for as long as I could hold off on sharing it because it is one of my favorites and I just wanted to delay the pleasure just a little. Thankfully, I plan some posts well in advance so when I saw this on my countdown log journal for today, I was so excited. I cannot believe I refrained from moving it up sooner, but having waited is making it that much sweeter. For this 430th day of G.O’s service, we travel back to 2007 to sit in on Tykeys’ energetic rehearsal of 연상연하 [Old & Young].

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 428

I often wonder when G.O became MBLAQ’s official main vocal if he realized how much dancing he was going to be required to do. Choreography is part of the Korean pop idol package but he is primarily a romantic balladeer. As we all know, ballads do not really require choreography. I can only hope G.O surprised himself with how well he could . . . move. I pretty much view dancing as a sport, and much of MBLAQ’s choreography was quite athletic, especially in aggressively intense dance tracks like Run. Along with its searing vocals and powerful rap, Run was designed to be visually spectacular. And indeed it was when our gorgeous men in black brought their fierce martial arts themed performance to the K-Collection Fashion Concert stage back on 11 March 2012.
