On 11 May 2014, G.O stepped into the role of the gentle and innocent Prince Hodong in 바람의나라 [The Kingdom of the Winds] for the first performance of the show’s run, marking another first: this was the first time an artist from Korean popular music had set foot on the Seoul Arts Center stage with the prestigious Seoul Arts Group in a musical theater production. I recall waiting for the pics and cams – but more importantly, wanted to hear about his performance which of course grew accolades from his adoring A+ in the audience that evening. I want to celebrate that night of firsts for G.O with a short fan cam of his first curtain call on the Seoul Arts Center stage that evening.
G.O seemed a combination of ease and awe during his first curtain call following his performance in the visually spectacular and hauntingly tragic musical. It was a moment I hope he drank in slowly and continues to reflect on every so often.
When I look back at this time in 2014, I cannot not help but pause to have my own moments of reliving the awe of seeing G.O in the pictures and cams from 11 May knowing that just three short days prior, he performed in his last night as Dongho in Seopyeonje.
G.O’s remarkable ability to portray two different men in two very different productions proved to me that his talent has no bounds. I dream of his return to the musical stage. Well, actually….I just dream of his return. Period.
