[News] This is NOT a Drill ~ GOT7 Comeback is HAPPENING

Even if I attempted with good intention and focus to catch up on the past year plus I have been away from blogging, I could not even begin to scratch the surface of everything I missed in K-poplandia! But I suppose if one thing was going to bring me out of fangirl semi-retirement, it was going to be my beloved and sorely missed GOT7. With Jay B and Jinyoung freshly discharged from their military duties, the men of G7 are wasting no time and are scheduled to make a comeback on January 20, 2025, with a new EP entitled, Winter Heptagon. To say I am excited is an understatement.

Waiting For Donghun ~ Celebrating Under 200 Days! (Day 440)

Wow…..the long road continues to shorten! When we started this journey at 638 days and counting, getting into the 100’s seemed like a distant dream. True, time marches on without hesitation or break, but I think we all can agree that some days seem to just drag out longer than others. And that can be frustrating while waiting for an end point. The ‘are we there yet’ rings louder when we are so close and yet still so far. Hopefully, this little series has helped keep the journey somewhat entertaining. So what little tidbit do I have to share to celebrate Donghun having less than 200 days remaining in his service? Well. This one blew my mind. I did not know pre-debut Donghun shared the stage with my beloved GOT7. But HE DID! And, it was by way of a little mystery music game show called I Can See Your Voice [너의 목소리가 보여].

On My Playlist ~ Encore [GOT7]

Ok, this has to be one of the greatest bait and switch moments recorded in K-pop history. For the K-pop stans out there, can you name any group that fulfills their contractual duty, decides against re-signing with the agency that debuted them, leaves said agency retaining their name, trademarks and the like, begins pursuing individual career opportunities, even signing individual contracts with various agencies; BUT THEN in a month’s time, releases a single complete with MV? If you answered GOT7, you win! The prize? A beautifully Jinyoung-penned declaration to Ahgase worldwide that the next chapter is indeed the group’s Encore. That is, that they are not (nor will they be) leaving the stage, or each other.

Playlist Roulette ~ Miracle [GOT7]

Oh my . . . how oddly fortuitous this pull while at the same time quite sentimental and timely given the recent turn of events regarding my beloved GOT7. If you are at all familiar with the extensive discography GOT7 has built over these past seven years, you can easily understand and surmise that the Strictly Korean playlist could have shuffled out any one of so many possible tracks (G7’s entire discography minus their Japanese albums is contained on that list) and yet it conspired with the K-pop gods to give me the gentle and very meaningful ballad, Miracle, the title track from the group’s repackaged third full studio album, Present: You> & Me. Sigh . . .

On My Playlist ~ Breath and Last Piece [GOT7]

With so much new music coming out at once, I admit that I have been unable to keep up. In anticipation of GOT7’s November 30th album release, Breath of Love: Last Piece, the group whet appetites with a pre-release track, Breath, on November 23rd. It was then that it truly sunk in how long they had been away, and how much I have missed them. On November 30th, along with the album release, they dropped a second title track, Last Piece, and with that, were officially back. Yes, they have been away, but I easily place this comeback in the worth the wait column.

On My Playlist ~ I’m In Trouble [NU’EST]

I know. I KNOW! It has been 8 years since Nu’est debuted. And I know I am coming to the party late. LATE! But the fact of the matter is, I am here and their latest release has my full attention. And once something catches my attention, the research begins and I travel back in time to become acquainted with something I probably should have checked out years prior. It’s how I roll lately. I guess I am a late K-pop bloomer but I am sure JR, Aron, Baekho, Minhyun, and Ren would be thrilled that I love the title track, I’m In Trouble off of their 8th mini-album, The Nocturne. It seems rather serendipitous don’t you think, that I am discovering Nu’est with such excited interest now in what is their 8th year with their 8th mini-album? The K-pop gods always have a plan!

On My Playlist ~ Not By The Moon [GOT7]

“O, swear not by the moon, th’ inconstant moon,
That monthly changes in her circle orb,
Lest that thy love prove likewise variable.”

GOT7 is back and they are more romantic than ever. All I have to say to that is this: I would gladly be Juliet to any one of these seven Romeos and willingly surrender myself to the apothecary of music and visuals they are serving up in their latest release, Not By The Moon.

Fangirling 2019: A Retrospective

Being forced to shelter-in-place during what is perhaps turning into one of the most incredible and frightening situations I may see in my lifetime (yes, I am talking about the COVID-19 pandemic) has given me time to reflect on the tumultuous fangirl journey I have been on these past seven years. By the close of 2019, I realized that I had burst through a rather stringent guardrail when it came to Korean entertainment and in particular, Korean music. After my honey baby bias G.O of MBLAQ completed his military service, went from AfreecaTV BJ to YouTuber and yes, even became a husband, I kind of went on a bender. I wanted to write about my explorative fangirl year of 2019 before 2019 ended but failed to actually sit down and do so. Then, I pretty much abandoned the blog altogether. Now that I am in forced lockdown, I really feel the urge to return, show the blog some love, and write again. I have truly missed writing. So, humor me if you will, and let me tell you about my 2019 fangirl adventures  (albeit a little late and wordy) and my hopes for 2020.

On My Playlist ~ Bullet To The Heart [Jackson Wang]

Listening to Jackson Wang’s recently released single Bullet To The Heart solidifies the fact that GOT7 will not, nor probably ever will, let me settle on a bias in the group. And, I’m okay with that.

On 20 September, Jackson returned to social media after a short hiatus to begin promoting his upcoming solo album, Mirrors, with news of a single from that album being released in the coming days. On 24 September when Bullet To The Heart dropped, I was intrigued, ripe with anticipation, and looking forward to what Team Wang was going to bring. I have to say, the song successfully whet my appetite. I want more. Moreover, I feel the new song is just scratching the surface of something really big coming our way and I can only hope I will be prepared.
