The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 277

Yes, so I missed MBLAQ’s Japanese debut also. Sigh . . . It would have been a great way to celebrate my birthday month in May of 2011 as debuts bring all kinds of treasures. Those treasures manifest themselves in the form of a song, album, MV, live promotional appearances, even fan meets or fan signs. It would have been all kinds of birthday bliss. But alas, I arrived late. I still can relive the excitement though, right? MBLAQ debuted in Japan with Your Luv, a song I happen to think showcased G.O’s indelible voice and potent charm.  Continue reading “The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 277”

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 276

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have G.O sing MBLAQ’s  낙서 [Scribble] directly to you? True, he does not have a whole lot of actual singing time, but that did not stop some of our amazing cam operators from taking their cameras off of him one second during the entire song. For Day 276, a Fan-Camming day here on the Countdown, let’s travel back to January 2012 for MBLAQ’s performance of the rhythmic and soulful 낙서 at the Gonjiam Farm Festival.  It will be impossible to avoid the magic of this moment brought on by letsgoinho’s steady and focused cam, and G.O’s dreamy performance. Prepare yourselves.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 275

It is Day 275 of G.O’s service!! Do you realize that in less than a month he will hit the 300 day mark?! If you had any doubts that time would actually move swiftly, think again. You have to agree with me when I say the days are flying by! Even G.O mentioned during his recent chat that the time was going by quickly. For 274 days I have been doing my best to make everyone fall for G.O. How am I doing? It’s One Shot .gif day today so I went and dug up a Mona Lisa era performance of  알면서 그래 [I Think You Know] and created a swoon-worthy .gif. Well, I think it is swoon-worthy!

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 274

It takes a lot of courage for me to listen to G.O’s cover of Javier Colón’s Song For Your Tears but it has been staring at me from the shelf in The Retro Room for some time now. I knew that sooner or later I was going to want pull it down, dust it off, listen to it, and subsequently feel my heart shatter into a million pieces. G.O being away and missing him compounds the aching but this song is just too good and his performance of it during the Zepp and Sensation tours of 2013, a master vocal class with every note.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 273

I love G.O’s voice, his quick wit, intellect and smile. His quiet humbleness and gracious manner have no match. Tie that all up into his gummy worm-loving playfulness and it truly does make you wish he were your brother, your uncle…or even your boyfriend. Bless the fangirls who captured those moments where our mischievous main vocal so matter-of-factly made the gummy worm an all out fashion statement and super sweet accessory.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 272

After MBLAQ’s rather successful Blaq% Asia Tour in 2012 (and particularly so in Japan), it was decided that the group would release a Japanese version of Mona Lisa and it was sensory overload. The one thing a physical CD can give us over its digital counterpart is beautiful packaging coupled photo books and photo cards that are artfully produced and which become treasured artifacts. For Day 272 of G.O’s service, I feel like revisiting the Three Shades of Japanese Mona Lisa.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 271

With the dynamic of three that is now MBLAQ, I often think about how older songs that we have not yet heard them sing would sound today. Has anyone else compiled a list like I have? One of my top requests to hear real time now would be the breathtaking ballad from their second mini album, Last Luv. Have you listened to it lately? I think it is a perfect song to add to the G.O Vocal Virtuosity section of the Countdown. His voice may not have been the one to open or close the song but was indeed the abundant and delicious main course that may have you asking . . . hmmm, do I really need an appetizer or dessert?

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 270

I have often written here repeatedly that I firmly believe that when G.O chooses a song to cover, it will be a song that resonates with him or holds special meaning. I myself have pondered often as to what it was in a song that captures him. Is it the melody? Is it the lyrics? A little of both? On his birthday this past 6 November, he opened a chatroom in MBLAQ’s Daum Cafe and answered that question.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 269

Gosh, the One Shots really sneak up on me. They really do remind me how fast these days are flying by. It always seems like I have just posted either a picture of .gif and it is time for another one. Nothing wrong with that. With the amazing collection of pictures available, G.O would have to serve a few rounds of duty to honor them all. It is Day 269 and I feel like gazing at his gorgeous profile.

Love, Laughter and Seung Ho In The Rain ~ The Musical Sabita

Having now successfully conquered some pretty serious and lingering jet lag following my return from Seoul late last month, I am finally coherent enough to set my thoughts down about the musical 사랑은비를타고 [Love Is In The Rain], or as it is affectionately known in the Korean musical theater world, 사비타 [Sabita]. Since I attended the musical with the express intention of seeing MBLAQ’s leader Yang Seung Ho in his role as Dong Hyun, the focus primarily will be on his performance, but admit that I will include thoughts overall on his cast mates and the show overall. Additionally, I am including some fan account material to expose confirm Seung Ho’s incredibly sweet fan service. Yes, MBLAQ’s quietly charismatic leader is more endearing than he leads us to believe, a hundred fold more talented than he is given credit for and yes, more handsome in person than any picture can live up to. For this post, I have taken off my G.O-tinted bias glasses to give Seung Ho my undivided attention and in return, he pleasantly surprised me.
