The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 62

It is hard to imagine that in previous productions of the musical 바람의나라 [The Kingdom of the Winds] that the part of Prince Ho Dong’s spirit animal, the Phoenix 병아 리 [Byungari – baby chicken, or chick] was played by a male actor. Inasmuch as I believe Byungari was really neither male nor female specifically, I could not imagine any one better opposite G.O in the part than Kim Hye Won. Hence, I will refer to the Phoenix as a she.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 43

2014. What a year. Inasmuch as I have encouraged myself to not worry about the future, or dwell on the past, I cannot help but remember 2014 for so many reasons. Even if the year ended on a rather dour note with the news of changes in MBLAQ’s dynamic, it is impossible to deny that up until that point, G.O was having a spectacular year, both as main vocal for MBLAQ and on his own as a musical theater actor.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 25

The first five months of 2014 were pretty spectacular for our gentle main vocal, G.O. As the year opened, he was in rehearsals for Seopyeonje which subsequently opened in March. By April, he was knee-deep in promotions for MBLAQ’s 6th mini album, Broken. At the same time, he was cast in a second musical, 바람의나라 [Kingdom of the Winds], scheduled to open in May, a mere 3 days after his final performance in Seopyeonje. He was perhaps at his busiest, yet I don’t think I have seen him happier.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 2

I feel very fortunate to have had my first G.O experience come in the form of musical theater, and with two very prestigious roles. I have a feeling G.O has yet to fully embrace the fact that he was as good as he was in all three of his musical roles, and that he has this wonderful and natural ability to wed music with acting. Moreover, he does it with an effortless honesty, grace and ease.

Softly Behind The Curtain With MBLAQ

%ED%81%AC%EA%B8%B0%EB%B3%80%ED%99%98_1

Twilight drops her curtain down, and pins it with a star.

It has now been two months since I have seen G.O. Two months since I watched his emotion erupt and his heart spill out all over the Curtain Call stage. Now, a new year has begun and I still have not been able to adequately sum up my experience in words and transfer them here to my blog. There are far too many emotions…..still. Frankly, I don’t think I am able to sum it all up. But, I will try. I will try to explain those bittersweet moments watching G.O perform alongside his MBLAQ brothers on those two emotional evenings in late November. I will attempt to describe what it felt like to watch him offer up to us his remarkable talent. I will share how excited I am about his future. And finally, I want to tell you why I am grateful he chose me to be his fan.

When The Tears of Your Bias Beckon You

BzLf8_0CQAAOxjV

Our heart controls our inner most emotions, allowing us to be forthright, dynamic, and sometimes impulsive.

It was to be just another appearance by MBLAQ. One of those appearances where they chat a little, sing a little, then call it a night. However, the seemingly ordinary evening of October 2nd at the Hwangryeong Festival in Busan turned out to be anything but ordinary. The air seemed heavy. The mood heavier, and something simply did not feel right.

When Your Bias Tells Everyone He Knows YOU

MNet Meet & Greet

In what seems like a million years ago now, MNet scheduled an online Meet & Greet with MBLAQ to celebrate the release of their 6th mini album, Broken.  It was initially scheduled for Thursday, April 17, 2014 which would have been really cool for me since I was in Seoul at that time to see G.O in his second musical, Seopyeonje. Then the Sewol Ferry tragedy happened and out of respect for the families who lost loved ones as well as for a nation mourning, MBLAQ and MNet collectively decided to postpone and reschedule the meet and greet. It would happen at some point, we just did not know when. In the meantime, we were encouraged to buy up the CD and vie for position as ‘top buyer’ for some extra special love from the group during the meet & greet. I was determined to be one of those top buyers.

바람의나라 (The Kingdom of The Winds) – Final Thoughts of G.O’s Prince Hodong

Kingdom Leads

As I sit down to gather my final thoughts about the musical 바람의나라 (The Kingdom of The Winds), and in particular, G.O’s gentle nuanced performance, I truly do not know where to begin. Before I stepped into the theatre to watch it unfold real-time, I did a little background check of the story so I would have some idea going in.  Still, nothing could have prepared me for the powerful and emotional interpretation brought to the stage by the Seoul Arts Group or the tender, heart-wrenching performance by G.O in the role of Prince Hodong. G.O continues to shock and amaze me.
