The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 43

2014. What a year. Inasmuch as I have encouraged myself to not worry about the future, or dwell on the past, I cannot help but remember 2014 for so many reasons. Even if the year ended on a rather dour note with the news of changes in MBLAQ’s dynamic, it is impossible to deny that up until that point, G.O was having a spectacular year, both as main vocal for MBLAQ and on his own as a musical theater actor.

In May 2014, it was difficult to avoid seeing G.O. Whether it was on the musical theater stage, various Korean music programs such as InkigayoShow Champion, etc., due to Broken promotions with MBLAQ), or even radio studio appearances, his star was illuminating countless media avenues. It was an exciting time.

His brand of handsome is truly devastating.

Even more exciting, and important (even though he would probably deny it), was landing the cover of the May 2014 edition of the Korean magazine The Musical along side his 바람의나라 [The Kingdom of the Winds] co-star, Go Young Bin.

Not only was he starring opposite an icon of the Korean musical theater stage, he was also enjoying the honor of sharing a magazine cover and documented photo shoot with Young Bin. Moreover, G.O was simply having his talent further introduced to the world at large.

This was a  very special time for G.O, and for his fans. Likewise, it was an equally amazing time for those musical theater fans who were meeting him for the first time on the musical theater stage. He gave everyone pause to consider and admire the scope and depth of his incredibly remarkable and beautiful talent.

Audiences may have entered the theater skeptical, but they left singing his praises. In the deepest recesses of my soul, I quietly long for G.O to consider musical theater at some point again in his career, even if it happens when he is 50 years old. I don’t care. If my feet are still above ground, I will be there supporting him, and will most likely be as much in love with his voice at that moment as I was the first time I heard him sing.

What was the first time you heard him sing? I still remember the moment I became Cloud… it was about 25 seconds in to the first time I saw Rain sing “Nan” in Seoul in a video.
I came to Rain through Jang Keun Suk. I came to MBLAQ of course through Rain… and through Hello Baby to discover my true favorite of the group was it’s heart… G.O.

I honestly cannot recall when I first heard him sing because I knew of MBLAQ through Rain and had heard some of MBLAQ’s songs. But conscious abduction came when I began researching him for my Jan 1 2014 blog post. That research began right after I returned from Tokyo after seeing Rain in his Zepp Tour in November 2013.

I began work on that piece and I was completely awakened to who my one true bias was: G.O. At that time, I was watching and listening to so much. I know Cry was one of the first – both in way of hearing him and seeing him – I mean…really hearing and seeing him. Further research led me to Immortal Song 2, his digital singles, his work with Tykeys, the variety shows and so on.

But he completely stole my heart when I saw him in Seopyeonje and subsequent after show meetings where I was not only struck by his ridiculously amazing talent, but his incredible humbleness and graciousness towards his fans. He is by far the sweetest man I have ever met. That sealed the deal, so to speak. There was no looking back at that point. Whenever I could go to see him, I went. Whatever I could do to support him, I did it.

He is my reason. Sometimes I believe he chose me to be his fan. But whatever the fates had planned, I know I am exactly where I am supposed to be…with G.O.~♥
