The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 258

G.O’s fan service. It is legendary. So why not celebrate it here while we countdown the days towards discharge from his military duties. As I make my way through this countdown journey, I am pleasantly amazed by G.O’s ability to continually inspire me. Even when I am looking at a blank page, or a blank line in my tattered notebook, something always seems to find its way into the countdown. True, there is so much to love and admire about G.O, more than 730 days can contain, to be sure. So let’s have some fun with his fabled fan service.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 255

I have to admit that I admire the balance of strength and softness that houses itself so effortlessly in G.O. He exudes a masculinity that is always present and evident, but it is never threatening or chauvinistic. Perhaps it is because he has surrendered himself to his softer side, embraces it, and is not afraid to reveal it. Am I the only one who finds this extremely attractive? I have not met very many men like this and perhaps this is why I am so smitten with G.O. I have to believe that development of this delicate balance came early, when he was a child perhaps. Moreover, I have to believe it had something to do with how he was nurtured. I have to believe it started with family.

[notice] The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge

009

Just a little heads up to let those following the Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge here on the blog that beginning 1 November, I will be moving the publish time to 10:00 AM KST (it is currently 6:00 AM). With daylight’s saving time coming to a close here in my home state of Illinois on G.O’s birthday (6 November), the time difference between Chicago and Seoul will stretch to 15 hours. Somehow that extra hour makes the time difference seem even longer. I decided (after 254 posts) that I would really prefer being at home publishing these countdown offerings (instead of at the real job desk). Truth be told, I just want to give myself a little extra time to finalize and make the posts pretty before sending them into the blogosphere. I think you would agree that G.O is worth every extra bit of attention.~^^

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 254

I am feeling nostalgic for an era I was not a part of. I have been thinking quite a bit of MBLAQ’s debut and how exciting it must have been for all. Maybe with the passing of another anniversary this month and having been in Seoul at that time, I am just feeling emotional. I think of the fans who were supporting G.O when he was with Tykeys and how they continued support through his transition to MBLAQ and I am grateful. For today, which is a fan-camming day, I am returning to A Lucky Day (again), and her sweet compilation of G.O-focused cams during some early performances of Oh Yeah.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 253

Although they have become fewer over the past couple of years, there have been many documented moments of G.O’s absolute playfulness. Whether it was on the stage, during variety shows, fan meetings or fan signs; captured in video or in still photography, G.O’s brand of playfulness is a special part of his charm and will always remain one of many characteristics that make him so very attractive ~ in good times and bad. I am adding this category to my list and will share many of his playful moments over the next (and remaining) 478 days of his service.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 252

So I went to Seoul. I was there for three weeks. It was perfect, magical even. And I did not even see my bias. Well….I guess I did, kind of. It was in his cardboard cut-out likeness at the Seocho Tourist Information Center. I admit, I was worried I would run into the real one as I was staying in Seocho, and very near to the Seocho City office. But, we managed to keep out of each other’s eyesight and he continued to quietly serve and that was totally cool. But….like many before me, I saw him indirectly, and a couple of times.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 251

Yes, each day served is one day closer. Each day served is also a reminder of how much I do miss G.O. And it is not just his voice I miss, I miss his presence – you know, that ever-present possibility of him showing up on a stage somewhere, on television, in a musical. And….I really, really miss his smile. That genuine, ‘I’m feeling really good‘ kind of smile. The kind that is the subject of today’s One Shot, in .gif form.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 250

I cannot even begin to imagine the number of times G.O has graced the many radio studios across Seoul over the course of his career. In those visits, he often had the opportunity to sing live. I think my favorites have always been those impromptu moments where he was asked to sing a song, or a clip of a song just off the cuff, no preparation. On March 15, 2014, G.O and Cha Ji Yeon (his co-star in the musical 서편제 [Seopyeonje]), dropped by Super Junior’s Kiss The Radio at the KBS Cool FM studios. It was there and then the humble musical actor gave the audience a little preview of what to expect when he would grace the Korean musical theater stage the following week playing the troubled Dong Ho in Seopyeonje.
