The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 8

On a scale from one to ten (with ten be the highest supreme best of the best), on any given day, G.O’s level of handsome is easily at 10 (in fact, I would say it is arguably higher). I am convinced, however, that there is no technology available today that could adequately measure the level of his handsome and charisma during MBLAQ’s Stay era.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 7

Once you stand in the warm ray of his light,
it becomes a sanctuary you never wish to leave.
However, if you must ~
you long for the moment when you can return and stand in it once again.

I captured this blurred shot prior to the last song of G.O’s set at the I.Callist Idol Vocalist Concert, Play That Song. It is impossible to consider a last song as truly meaning the last song. As we sat lost in the sweet embrace of his voice, we were unaware of what tomorrow would bring. Yet, sometimes the eyes reveal a sadness the heart is unable to speak.

There are 724 more days until he returns.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 4

When MBLAQ released their 6th mini album, Broken, they took a decidedly different approach to overall concept and style. Gone were the ornate, flashy and elaborate costumes. In were the sleek, subtle and sophisticated style of well-tailored suits. True, they began that cross-over with Sexy Beat, but it really took hold, however, with Broken.

With our main vocal man G.O soon to be approaching 30, he was no longer just a boy living in absolute quality, he was a man embraced in absolute elegance.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 3

Before quietly and graciously saying good-bye, G.O left us with much to hold on to while he is away completing his military service. And while his genuine appreciation for his loving fans is perhaps my favorite of all of the gifts he gives, his golden voice is a treasured gift I am willing to receive time and again.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 2

I feel very fortunate to have had my first G.O experience come in the form of musical theater, and with two very prestigious roles. I have a feeling G.O has yet to fully embrace the fact that he was as good as he was in all three of his musical roles, and that he has this wonderful and natural ability to wed music with acting. Moreover, he does it with an effortless honesty, grace and ease.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 1

I should have been prepared. I knew it was inevitable. But much like the majority of his legion of fans, news of G.O’s military enlistment came as a complete blindside. At 2PM, Korean Standard Time, on Thursday, February 18, 2016, our gentle soulful soldier man officially arrived to the training camp in Nonsan, Chungnam Province to begin his four week basic training.

And so it begins.

Prelude to Adieu – An Evening With G.O

News of MBLAQ’s mercurial main vocal heading to the Army broke on Monday, February 15 and to many came as a complete shock and surprise. I was in flight heading back to Chicago when reports of G.O’s enlistment was spreading like wildfire throughout various media posts, and admittedly I was still reveling in the intoxication of spending the evening with him on what was a very windy and chilly Valentine’s Day attending the I.Callist Idol Vocalist Concert in Seoul the night before. I admit I was stunned when I began reading the news and immediately felt the bittersweet aftertaste of the concert realizing that my bias was going to be gone for two years. In retrospect, however, if you paid close attention, the messages leading up to this news were there. They were subtle, but nevertheless, they were there.
