Musing While Cruising the Hallyu Highway
The November 19, 2011 broadcast of Immortal Song 2 was a particularly competitive one. It was the King of Kings Special episode where the contestants sang one of the songs that brought them a previous win and everyone surely brought their A-game to the show that evening. G.O returned with Kim Su Hee’s 못 잊겠어요 [I Can’t Forget] and it was every bit as smooth and jazzy as the night he first sang it back on August 13th.

Do you ever watch G.O and get lost in his forever playfulness? *Sigh* The early days following debut were the best. I still go back and forth emotionally wishing I was there from the beginning but understanding that when I discovered this gem of a man, it was exactly when I was supposed to arrive to the fandom. Still, being able to have experienced the early variety days real-time had to be pretty much priceless. Day 86 has me traveling back to the Y era and GOMTV’s Making The Artist.

G.O and Mir. It had to be fate, destiny or written somewhere that these two gentle spirits were going to cross paths and become one very powerful rap-vocal OST duo. They released two songs in 2012 and one in 2013 for three different original soundtracks. I think they are due for another one, don’t you ~ well, once G.O completes his service. For Day 85, I want to revisit my fave of the OST work exclusive to G.O and Mir, 천국이니까 [Because It’s Heaven/Winter Rain] from the Korean drama, The King of Dramas.

If I was shopping for a watch in September of 2011, I would have been SOLD on the Armani Exchange watches our outrageously gorgeous main vocal G.O was modeling in the October 2011 issue of GQ Korea. I don’t even mind that they were watches for men. Sold, I tell you……s.o.l.d.

There are 648 more days left . . . everyone holding up ok? G.O has almost completed 100 days! Frankly, it is flying by, at least according to my body clock. Those are some very powerful lyrics to open a song. Add the tender voice of G.O and they become that much more powerful, emotional and heartbreaking. Ah….but that is his intention, isn’t it? To touch your heart when he sings. To make you feel something. On the evening of September 10, 2011, G.O made his tenth visit to the Immortal Song 2 stage and sang Nam Jin’s 가슴 아프계 [Heartbreakingly] to perhaps one of the most hushed audiences I have ever witnessed. Hushed in awe.

Nothing could have prepared me for the moment the curtain opened at the Universal Arts Center Theater in Seoul on the evening of April 8, 2014, and G.O, very powerfully in his best rock & roll swag, began to walk downstage towards the audience in the opening moments of Seopyeonje. It was a moment I won’t soon forget and one etched in my heart forever. For this 81st day of G.O’s service, I want to focus on a later scene however, when he sang The Platters’ classic hit from 1958, Smoke Gets In Your Eyes ~ in English! There will never be words adequate to describe the emotions that rushed through me at that moment….or even throughout the whole of this amazing musical.

When neo-soul artist Eric Benét released his second album, Hurricane in June 2005, little did he know the kind of impression that album was going to make on a young vocalist in South Korea. Of the fourteen tracks on Benét’s album, four resonated strongly with our beautiful main vocal man and frankly, I cannot choose a favorite of those four because all are equally amazing. In 2012, however, G.O gave some very special love and attention to Cracks of My Broken Heart.

There are moments when I really begin to think about everything G.O has been through in his career. He really has crammed a lot of experience in a short amount of years, when you think of it. During his time with MBLAQ from debut to the present, he (either solo or with the group) has had the opportunity to endorse many a product. But what I did not realize until very recent is that he endorsed (and/or modeled) for the Mito Shop clothing line when he was with Tykeys.
