The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 313

사랑은 차가운 유혹
그래도 피할 순 없어
Love is a cold temptation, still I cannot avoid it.

Most of the time when I listen to G.O sing, I honestly do not feel the need to fully understand the lyrics and the reason being is that his interpretations, his feelings, emotions, passion, heart and soul generally tell the story without a need for translation. However, I admit that understanding what he is singing about adds a greater and more powerful dimension to the song. One of the songs G.O chose to sing for his last stage before departing for military camp was 사랑은 차가운 유혹 [Love Is A Cold Temptation]. It was the fourth song of his five song set last February at the I.Callist Idol Vocal Concert. It was tender. It was passionate. It was beautiful.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 312

Merry G.O Christmas!!! It is Day 312 of G.O’s service and Christmas Day. This is the first of two Christamases we will celebrate while G.O is serving and it is still amazing to me that soon he will complete his first year. One Christmas down . . . one more to go! Just something very light and simple today, a flashback to Christmas 2009, Sukira Red Christmas, and a few sweet captures of our darling main vocal.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 310

It is Day 310 and time for another installment of  Fan-Camming Friday. This fan-camming moment is actually a sequel to Day 303 where I visited an early G.O-focused fan cam moment from the 24 December 2009 TBS Christmas Special. In two short days it will be Christmas so I thought I would keep in line with the season by sharing another focused cam of our beloved main vocal. I am calling this post G.O.O.D Christmas Luv.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 309

If I limit myself to only posting various performances of G.O singing for the next 422 days, it would be quite nice indeed. However, it would deprive all (including me) from enjoying all aspects of G.O’s charm. To be honest, it would also be lazy of me given my overall desire to share every bit of G.O’s art and talent which is in no way limited to just music. While it is true that music is what generally defines him for it seems to be his first and foremost passion, G.O’s own exploration into other genres of art certainly expands his horizons as an artist perhaps even revealing exciting new ways for him to express himself artistically. If I confine this series to just music, one thing is certain: we would miss out on getting to revisit G.Os playful antics such as those captured at Samsung Galaxy’s S III Big Idol Match on 7 August 2012.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 308

In looking back over the 308 posts in this series thus far, I have come to the conclusion that I really can babble on quite a bit about G.O. It’s funny. When I decided to take this journey, I told myself I was going to keep it simple. A picture, a video, a small commemoration, so long as I was consistent and posted something daily. But now, this series has become very much a labor of love for me and I find that I just cannot keep it simple when it involves G.O. I will do my best today however to try and contain the feels as I honor the absolute vocal virtuosity captured in 말하지 말걸 [I Shouldn’t Speak] at MBLAQ’s performance in Yokohama during the Blaq% Tour, 9 September 2012.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 307

What I love most about G.O’s performance of Play That Song on the 22 November 2013 broadcast of Yoo Heeyeol’s Sketchbook is that he is backed by a live band and back up singers which I feel gives a soulful weight to the earthiness of this incredible R&B ballad. The dynamic of a live band backing G.O is how I envision him performing…..always.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 306

I was thinking about Broken promotions today and how clueless I was at that time to have made the most of being in Seoul when MBLAQ released their 6th mini album. I mean, I could have gone to so many of the promotions if I only knew how to go about it at that time. I was just stepping into the fandom then and the only thing on my mind was G.O. Although MBLAQ had released their Japanese single, Still In Love just prior to Broken, I was still somewhat out of the loop and the thought of trying to get to any promotions did not really cross my mind. Despite my own ineptitude, I don’t look back on that trip to Seoul as a failure. On the contrary. It was my MBLAQ awakening, as it were, and the very moment I met and came face-to-face with my one true bias. On 8 April 2014 I would see G.O perform for the first time in Seopyeonje, however earlier that day he and MBLAQ were at the SBS studios getting their 남자답게 [Be A Man] groove on for The Show, which resulted in a fabulous G.O- focused cam.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 305

Maybe the holidays are making me a bit more sensitive and sentimental but lately I have been thinking a lot about Prince Ho Dong, his story and more importantly, how wonderfully G.O portrayed the young tender prince in the 2014 production of 바람의나라 [The Kingdom of the Winds]. The One Shot today is a delightful capture (and memory) from rehearsals.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 304

What is his process? Does the melody come and then the lyrics? Are there sometimes only lyrics and no melody? Or only a melody which he gently sets aside to contemplate or place before collaborators for words? Perhaps it is a maelstrom of words and melody that collide simultaneously within his heart and soul wherein all of the parts piece together like an intrique puzzle and a song is born. Whatever his process, G.O has proven himself to be an adept lyricist and composer. Our first glimpse of his writing prowess came with Tykeys 한번만 [Only Once], but with MBLAQ, we had our first taste with 돌아올 수 없는 [Can’t Come Back], his powerful dance track composition which provided the backdrop to Mir’s lyrics. Traveling back today to Blaq Style ~ 3D Edition, to honor Composer G.O.
