The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 533

One of G.O’s most ardent early fan photographers has been The Black Pearl. She (like many) has proved that there is much to admire about each and every photograph in existence of this expressively handsome man. I think you will find with today’s One Shot offering however that it is agreeably true that G.O fills a camera frame with more than just what the eye can see.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 532

Gwanghwamun Sonata’s Kang Hyun Woo was a role filled with angst and intensity, and the road to bring him to life on the musical stage demanding. Nevertheless, it was filled with a fair amount of levity for our talented main vocal in his first musical theater role. Perhaps having to share the role with bandmate Seung Ho made the process not only easier, but also fun. Getting to explore unchartered adventures always seem to be less daunting when you can navigate them with a trusted friend. I have to say with confidence that by the end of 2012, MBLAQ’s 87-Line were perhaps more like brothers. And while we wait for our quiet leader to begin his military service, our gregarious main vocal has (officially) under 200 days remaining in his own. But I am not going to go crazy with excitement just yet. No, today I am just going to revisit the early days of Gwanghwamun Sonata when G.O met and began exploring the complex and magnetic Kang Hyun Woo.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 529

I was beginning to think that G.O’s survival report update back on 14 July 2017 would be the only one we would get for the month of July and if you remember that boudoir shot, it would have been more than enough. However, I was pleasantly surprised by his late night 29 July update. Enjoying camaraderie, good food and some adult beverages, G.O and pal 2PM’s Jun. K paused a moment to create some selca magic.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 527

I don’t know what was in the air back on 24 August 2013 at MBLAQ’s Love Beat fan sign in Sinchon, but whatever it was certainly made G.O extra special chatty, playful and in some instances, impatient. It is another Fan-Camming Friday here on the countdown and I am opting for an eleven minute edit of G.O’s mischief in Sinchon. Unfortunately, there are no subtitles, but the video is entertaining nonetheless for whenever G.O playfully interacts with fans, fun is sure to be had.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 526

Beanie, shades and face mask will never retract from this guy’s omnipresent swag and stylish good looks. G.O proved just that back on 24 April 2012 as he glided through Gimpo Airport en route to Japan drenched in masculine shades of grey and black that coordinated like perfect pieces of a fashion puzzle. Haute airport couture. I felt like another Airport Style offering for today because sometimes watching G.O walk through an airport is like seeing him take flight from a different kind of runway altogether.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 525

There’s always a reason for the ddaeng!

When is MBLAQ and variety not a good match? I know I am biased. In all honesty, I have to confess that I have not watched other groups in variety shows outside of that hilarious Running Man episode with Seung Ho and Joon wherein there were other idol duos guesting along with them. So I have no real point of reference. However I do know one thing: MBLAQ sets the bar pretty high (for me) when it comes to variety entertainment. True, they have guested on many. But if you focus on the core four: Idol Army, Sesame Player, Hello Baby and Idol Manager, I think you will agree that MBLAQ owned Korean variety from 2009 through 2012. Today I am going way back to MBLAQ’s variety infancy to revisit a moment from Idol Army, Episode 10 [The Ski Resort Special] and MBLAQ’s National Music Show where bad boy G.O got to show a little vocal prowess and lots of humor with Rain’s Rainism.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 522

I wanted today to be another Vocal Virtuosity day after hearing One recently. Even though it is a MBLAQ group effort, Mr. Main Vocal proves predominant throughout the song. As you know, when that happens, I like to bring it to the forefront here on the countdown because as much as I adore all of MBLAQ’s music, when my lovely bias takes the vocal helm in a song, it rapidly moves up my fave list. I forgot how feel good One is and how crystalline and powerful G.O’s vocals are throughout the song. Even though I have been diligently searching, I could not find an actual live version or performance. If any of you are aware, please post a link to in the comments section. I did recall however the 13 September 2011 KBS broadcast of The Lord of Magic show wherein our fab five performed a wonderful and remarkably sweet LED light show using One as a backdrop music to the performance.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 521

I am not sure if you are aware, but Seoypyeonje is returning to the Korean musical theater stage next month. Directed again by Lee Gina, it returns with some familiar faces. Both Cha Ji Yeon and Lee Ja Ram each will return as Song Hwa, as will Seo Bum Seok in the role of Yoo Bong. However, there will be three new faces in the role of Dong Ho (Park Yeong Soo, Kim Jae Beom and Kang Pil Seok). As much as I love this wonderful musical and trust the direction of Lee Gina, I admit that I am still feeling a bit sad over the fact that is being revived without G.O. Then again, we all have to wonder if G.O would have even been cast again in the role (I think so); and if so, would he have accepted the offer to return? In any event, the news of the reprisal has made me drift back to G.O’s time on the Seopyeonje stage. So a little Dong Ho One Shot love on this 521st day of his service.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 520

I really thought that I would settle into a fan meet/fan sign fan cam for today’s Fan-Camming Friday moment. That was my plan any way. But whenever I come across a cam of G.O singing, the choice is automatically made for me! This happened today when I came across a cam of G.O performing his second digital single, Play That Song during the Seoul Sensation Tour in November 2013. Usually come Friday, I am cranked up for the weekend. Not today. No, today, I want to ease into Friday with grace and romance. Is there any better way to do that than with G.O’s velvety voice?

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 517

He probably would disagree, but I think G.O singing a song entitled ‘Superstar’ was telling of his own artistic trajectory in Korean popular music. It had to have been an amazing moment back in October 2009 for the young vocalist to be singing the Luther Vandross version of The Carpenters’ hit at Rain’s Legend of Rainism show. This was basically a debut solo stage for G.O as MBLAQ’s main vocal. A solo stage in front of Rain’s fans singing a Western song in English no less. Mind-blowing! G.O singing Superstar has Vocal Virtuosity written all over it; but instead of sharing the cam from the actual stage performance, I am opting for the rehearsal clip because it is 1:12 minutes of sweet vocal magic.
