The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 274

It takes a lot of courage for me to listen to G.O’s cover of Javier Colón’s Song For Your Tears but it has been staring at me from the shelf in The Retro Room for some time now. I knew that sooner or later I was going to want pull it down, dust it off, listen to it, and subsequently feel my heart shatter into a million pieces. G.O being away and missing him compounds the aching but this song is just too good and his performance of it during the Zepp and Sensation tours of 2013, a master vocal class with every note.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 268

You’re my dream, you’re my soul, you’re my reason . . .

We all know G.O has a magnificent voice and can sing. We tell him over and over. He has been reminded of it by the many legends he covered during his time gracing the Immortal Song 2 stage, and was equally commended by all who heard him perform in his three musicals as well as most recently during his stint on King Of Masked Singer. The man has a beautiful voice. Still, with all of the accolades, he probably remains one of the most underrated vocalists in Korean popular music. So yeah, I am working on changing that.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 265

Getting to see G.O perform in his family’s hometown on MBLAQ’s second anniversary seems . . . I don’t know, kind of romantic, doesn’t it? Well that is what fans got on 15 October 2011 when MBLAQ performed at the Gimhae Lifelong Learning Festival. G.O, stunning in red, on his home turf and throwing some intense glances into a very dedicated fan-cam during MBLAQ’s performance of Mona Lisa is a perfect choice for Day 265 of G.O’s service. Oh…and I seem to be losing track of my own fan-cam day rules, but I am sure you don’t mind. The more focused cams on G.O, the better, right?

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 230

I think of all of my little sub-categories that I have snuck into this Countdown series, the Windows To Your Soul ~ The G.O Eye Connect is becoming one of my absolute favorites. When G.O looks into a camera’s lens, I believe he does so with the intent to connect. He wants you to know he sees you and wants you to feel the connect. If a professionally filmed and televised performance (Inkigayo, M Countdown, etc.), the intent is perhaps different. But, not really. I think he simply wants us to feel his art which is in effect, a connect. Fans who have pointed their cams on him during performances often received focused attention in return. Yes, G.O seems to always be quite aware of who is dedicating their attention towards him.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 219

Light can be defined without sun.
Sweetness can be defined without honey.
Fragrance can be defined without a rose, but beauty cannot be defined without you.

At the close of 2013, I was well on my journey into falling deeply under G.O’s spell. It was fortunate in that there was much to look forward to in the new year, specifically an MBLAQ comeback, complete with a Japanese single release as well as two starring roles for our up and coming musical actor, G.O. Before the release of Broken and subsequent promotions, and before G.O’s Korean musical theater debut in Seopyeonje, the men of MBLAQ took part in a WAPOP concert at the Dome Art Hall of the Seoul Children’s Grand Park. Too much beautiful on the stage that day. Too much.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 218

If anything has been established here with this Countdown series (as well as the blog in general since having my heart commandeered by G.O), it is clear I am sentimental. I guess it won’t surprise anyone that MBLAQ’s guest appearance at the K-Pop Festival in Changwon back in October 2012 pulled at my heartstrings a little given the fact that G.O was born in Changwon. It is kind of cool getting to go back to the place you were born to show the hometown crowd how well you have grown up, right?~^^

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 208

It just occurred to me that I have not given myself any hard and fast rules about visiting The Retro Room here on the blog. I have set some guidelines with other posts like the G.O One Shots, and Fan-Camming, for example, but have not set any parameters for The Retro Room. This is fortuitous as I really, really felt like revisiting G.O’s gentle and heart-felt performance of The Eagles’ Desperado from the I.Callist Idol Vocal Concert back on 14 February 2016. That is, if my heart can weather the emotion in the wake of that remembrance.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 195

Do you mind if we head over to the Retro Room for about half a minute? I think you will like it. It is always nice (at least for me it is) when G.O flips through the pages of his cover song notebook, chooses a popular western ballad from the 1970’s, and even if he only shares a line or two of song, we still get to hear the sweet sounds of his beautiful voice. When this happens, it invariably fans the flames of my OG (that’s ‘old girl’) heart and ignites feels, emotions and a further sense of wonderment over the how and why these tender retro ballads resonate so deeply with G.O.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 182

When I made the commitment to write a post every day commemorating each day served of G.O military service, in theory it did not seem like it would be an arduous task. But I discovered that it has required an inordinate amount of discipline I was not even aware I had. As I write, I learn more about him and, in the wake of that, have learned a lot about myself. It has been a fantastic journey so far and I have to tell you, their is absolutely no downside. Getting to write about this talented young man is a privilege. Oh, and I get to see and/or hear him every day. Bonus! My Fan-Camming day posts are spaced ten days apart (if you haven’t noticed) which means today is a Fan-Camming day and bcause I have such a crush on A Lucky Day’s work, I will share her G.O-focused cam (and pictures) from the Men In Blaq show on 20 August 2011. Get ready for some G.O charm!
