The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 507

There are a million ways in which I could show you how humble G.O is. But you really only need to meet him to experience it. In my opinion, humbleness is something that cannot be faked. It is either a part of who you are, or it is not. Some may mistake humbleness as self-doubt or low self-worth. But being humble is different. Markers of self-doubt or self-worth might include phrases like, I can’t or I am not good enough. Whereas I believe humbleness may be marked by phrases such asI will work harder or I will learn and improve, even in the wake of accolades. G.O has been told countless times from fans, contemporaries, producers, directors, and the like that he possesses a unique and special talent; yet he always reminds us that he will try harder or do better. This could not have been better demonstrated than when he received the 8th Korean Musical Awards award for best newcomer actor for his portrayal of the tragic young pansori artist Dong Ho in Seopyeonje.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 505

I am really quite grateful that there have been many western songs that have resonated with G.O to the point where he has revisited them on several occasions, letting us hear them more than once. In the early part of his career there were many songs from the Eric Benét songbook that captured G.O’s attention. Beautiful ballads crafted perfectly in melody and lyric that he artfully made his own by wrapping them in his own velvety voice. We have heard G.O sing Benét’s The Last Time a few times. I think his 8 December 2009 T-Store Live Session performance rises above the rest. I revisit it today as a sort of throwback Thursday moment remembering the poise, elegance and exquisite talent of this astonishing young man.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 503

I could take the easiest possible avenue here for the seventh letter of the alphabet by simply saying G is for G.O! It is perfectly logical and fitting for today’s post. There are so many possibilities: graceful, gracious, generous, gifted, gallant, and even the obvious, gorgeous. But I can go one simpler. Indeed, I want to choose a word that all others could claim is perhaps the foundation by which each found their way into the category of describing G.O. One that most likely defines him from core to surface. It is probably my favorite word to describe him and heaven knows you will easily find it in every single post I have written about him here on this blog. That word is gentle.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 502

By now you are probably aware that even the most limited number of musical notes that escape G.O will always constitute a Vocal Virtuosity moment for me here during this countdown series, as well as any other given time or place. Now that I have crossed over the 500 post mark, out of all of them, I think my favorites will always be the ones that contain G.O singing. Even the tiniest most shortest utterance. His voice is like a tonic for my soul that at times soothes and at others, excites. There is something about the short clip of Dress Up he shared during the 20 June 2013 broadcast of MBC’s Shim Shim TaPa that was a little bit of both.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 500

500th day! 500th day! 500th day! Way back when G.O entered training camp on that chilly February afternoon, did you ever think that 500 days would pass as quickly as they have? I sure didn’t. With just a little over seven months remaining, I am sure the plans for his fan meeting and comeback are well underway and that makes me very very excited. The proverbial light at the end of the tunnel is growing brighter and brighter as we close in on G.O’s discharge day. Without getting too wordy today, I simply want to celebrate this wonderful milestone moment with you, and indeed with him. Congratulations to our sweet military man Byung Hee! By the end of this 1st day of July, he will have completed his 500th day of service!~🎉

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 499

So I had an idea of what I wanted to write about for today’s Fan-Camming Friday moment and then hit an indecisive wall, so to speak. My original choice for today was to revisit the Yeosu Pop Festival back on 5 August 2012. When I noticed that there was also ample reason to revisit the Asia Song Fest which was the day before Yeosu, I thought oh no ~ dilemma!! Then it occurred to me that I should just share both as we are at Day 499, the eve of another milestone: 500 days of service! I can think of no better way to begin that celebration than to inundate ourselves with G.O cam and pictures from these two wonderful performances.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 497

I admit that I am still mulling over G.O’s comment in his Daum Cafe chat about not being able to choose clothes which was kind of his way of saying he did not have fashion sense. This of course is nonsense! It seems rather clear that G.O’s self-deprecating humor has traveled with him throughout the years. An early instance came back in March 2010 during the press conference held introducing the cable fashion program, Coco & Marc 2.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 495

I know it may be hard to believe, but I have actually faced some days during this countdown series where I was unsure of what I would write about. Today was one of those days. But I have discovered a way to navigate that problem when it arises and that is to simply to pause, look and listen to G.O. Magically something always comes to mind. What came to mind today were thoughts of a fan meeting. I have never experienced a fan meeting of any kind for any artist or group, ever. It then occurred to me that my first fan meeting will be G.O’s first solo fan meeting next year. It furthered occurred to me that the first time I ever saw G.O perform was his first musical on the Korean musical stage. Therefore, to honor this idea of firsts, I am using MBLAQ’s first official fan meeting with their A+ back on 9 January 2011 and dropping it into a Vocal Virtuosity moment: G.O’s golden voice and You’re My +.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 494

It seems with all of his many recent updates, survival reports, and chat sessions over the past five months that G.O has rediscovered his playfulness. I admit that of the many things I so dearly admire about this charming and ever so talented man is his playful mischievous nature. This is something that clearly endears him to all from his family and friends to his adoring G.Oddesses. Yes, G.Oddesses. In his most recent chat session, he returned to referring to his tribe – you know, those of us who call him our bias, as G.Oddesses.  That’s kind of romantic to me. But before my heart completely derails here, let me refocus. This post aims at looking at a moment of playful G.O (which of course can easily fall into the romantic category if you are like me and appreciate a playful man with a cheeky sense of humor). Oh my . . . staaaaahp!!~^^ Today, I look back at the very short (but cute) teaser video MBC Every1 released in anticipation of MBLAQ’s variety show, Idol Manager.
