The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 308

In looking back over the 308 posts in this series thus far, I have come to the conclusion that I really can babble on quite a bit about G.O. It’s funny. When I decided to take this journey, I told myself I was going to keep it simple. A picture, a video, a small commemoration, so long as I was consistent and posted something daily. But now, this series has become very much a labor of love for me and I find that I just cannot keep it simple when it involves G.O. I will do my best today however to try and contain the feels as I honor the absolute vocal virtuosity captured in 말하지 말걸 [I Shouldn’t Speak] at MBLAQ’s performance in Yokohama during the Blaq% Tour, 9 September 2012.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 307

What I love most about G.O’s performance of Play That Song on the 22 November 2013 broadcast of Yoo Heeyeol’s Sketchbook is that he is backed by a live band and back up singers which I feel gives a soulful weight to the earthiness of this incredible R&B ballad. The dynamic of a live band backing G.O is how I envision him performing…..always.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 306

I was thinking about Broken promotions today and how clueless I was at that time to have made the most of being in Seoul when MBLAQ released their 6th mini album. I mean, I could have gone to so many of the promotions if I only knew how to go about it at that time. I was just stepping into the fandom then and the only thing on my mind was G.O. Although MBLAQ had released their Japanese single, Still In Love just prior to Broken, I was still somewhat out of the loop and the thought of trying to get to any promotions did not really cross my mind. Despite my own ineptitude, I don’t look back on that trip to Seoul as a failure. On the contrary. It was my MBLAQ awakening, as it were, and the very moment I met and came face-to-face with my one true bias. On 8 April 2014 I would see G.O perform for the first time in Seopyeonje, however earlier that day he and MBLAQ were at the SBS studios getting their 남자답게 [Be A Man] groove on for The Show, which resulted in a fabulous G.O- focused cam.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 305

Maybe the holidays are making me a bit more sensitive and sentimental but lately I have been thinking a lot about Prince Ho Dong, his story and more importantly, how wonderfully G.O portrayed the young tender prince in the 2014 production of 바람의나라 [The Kingdom of the Winds]. The One Shot today is a delightful capture (and memory) from rehearsals.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 304

What is his process? Does the melody come and then the lyrics? Are there sometimes only lyrics and no melody? Or only a melody which he gently sets aside to contemplate or place before collaborators for words? Perhaps it is a maelstrom of words and melody that collide simultaneously within his heart and soul wherein all of the parts piece together like an intrique puzzle and a song is born. Whatever his process, G.O has proven himself to be an adept lyricist and composer. Our first glimpse of his writing prowess came with Tykeys 한번만 [Only Once], but with MBLAQ, we had our first taste with 돌아올 수 없는 [Can’t Come Back], his powerful dance track composition which provided the backdrop to Mir’s lyrics. Traveling back today to Blaq Style ~ 3D Edition, to honor Composer G.O.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 303

You know, in MBLAQ’s early debut days, I think many fans were misled by G.O’s mature, street saavy look with his cropped tossled hair and goatee, and were quick to label him a bad boy. I think if I would have discovered him in those early days, he would have had the opposite affect on me, for all I see is dreamy, handsome and sexy. With five members in the group, I know G.O was not always the focal point (amazing to me but true~^^); however, if fans paid attention (and there were many who did) to the incredible passion, strength, tone and beauty of G.O’s voice while getting lost in his expressive eyes while he sang, the truth of his tender and romantic heart would shine through revealing that his core was softer than any flower boy in Korean popular music at that time and probably still is. It is nine days before Christmas and Fan-Camming Friday. In anticipation of the holidays, I want to revisit the 24 December 2009 TBS Christmas Special and MBLAQ’s hyung line performance of My Dream with a cam focus on G.O . . . of course. The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 302

Since he left for training camp back on 18 February 2016, G.O has steadily albeit stealthily maintained contact with his A+. An Instagram or Twitter post here and there, some by him or indirectly by way of others who happened to capture a picture or two. Of course there was the surprise attendance at Seung Ho’s musical where we caught a glimpse of both him and Mir as they left the theater via fan cam. The best and perhaps most sneaky and cheeky way in which G.O has given us survival reports is by way of a simple profile picture update on his sns accounts. Such was the case late in the evening of 9 December when he surprised us all with updates to both his Twitter and Instagram accounts and what was even better . . . it was with a selca.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 301

On 15 July 2010, M Countdown broadcast its 200th episode. They did what any good show would do to celebrate the milestone and make fans happy: they enlisted their team of MCD Guyz, G.O being one of them, and planned a 200 free hugs event. I have to admit that the fangirl in me would have possibly sold her soul to be one of the fortunate fans that day to receive a hug from G.O. Other than possibly scoring a selca with your bias, a hug has to probably be one of the most coveted gifts a bias can bestow upon a fan. Even though this was a planned and controlled event, I have to add it to the list of many moments of G.O’s fabled fan service.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 300

Three hundred days! Three hundred days! Three. Hundred. Days. It is Day 300 of G.O’s service and that means he is almost to the half way point in completing his mandatory military service. Before we know it, he will complete his first year. I wasn’t sure how to celebrate it and then thought…why not keep it simple. As in, simply share one of the finest photographic captures (EVER) of G.O’s incandescent smile. Yes, a perfect smile on a perfect day.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 299

We are on the eve of G.O’s 300th day of service. Why am I so excited about this?! It is not like he is being discharged tomorrow! I guess I am just one of those people who loves to celebrate the minor milestones as well as the major ones. I should not get ahead of myself. Ok….breathe. It is Day 299, a G.O One Shot day. I will preface this .gif offering by simply saying that should G.O ever decide to take up rhythmic gymnastics, he would not only do it reasonably well, he would be quite entertaining and indeed the highlight of the competition.
