The agony of that moment when the tease of yet another western R&B song slips into the infinite and we are left wondering, what if . . . This is how I feel when I watch a backstage moment with Tykeys where G.O not only showed his playful maknae side, he also revealed how deep, lush and expansive his playbook of western songs truly was (is) when he teased with a couple lines from Craig David’s Walking Away.
I have been visiting Tykeys land a lot as of late and cannot seem to escape the retro time warp I find myself trapped in, albeit willingly. I am probably doing this all out of order and perhaps should have started this entire countdown series with these early moments first working my way to the present. But, I rather love jumping all around the timeline because in many cases, I have no idea what I will write about until I actually sit down to do so! I don’t mind jumping around the G.O timeline if you don’t.^^
As I mentioned recently, I appreciate this era in G.O’s past as it was his introduction and indeed the stepping stone to continue moving him along on his artistic journey. These past moments that were thankfully captured are (at least to me) treasures. I am not exactly sure the when, the where and the how this impromptu (and fun) interview took place, but it had to be after debut (February 2007) and before the group disbanded (most likely November 2007). Extremely brief playful backstage moments like these with the young trio are exciting and a delight to watch, true. But the ultimate tease of G.O (then Jang Goon) singing a short line from Walking Away and then not finishing the entire song is….well, it is frustrating to say the least.
Waaaaahh!!! I want the whole song!!!! Was G.O even expecting that first line to come out as smooth and sweetly as it did, for he seems to have even shocked himself!? So cheeky with that tease. But then when he was going to continue, Su interrupts with some rap. I cannot help but LOVE the look G.O throws her like, ‘why did you do that?‘ <hehehe> His song concentration interrupted, the wish for a continuation was not to be. *sobbing* Was there too much nervous energy flowing backstage? But the real question: Does anyone know if he ever fully covered the song?!! If you know and have it, please post it in the comment section here. In the meantime, check out the entire song by Craig David himself and imagine what G.O’s rendition would sound like in its entirety.
Seriously, I would love to hear G.O cover this song now. I think you would agree that he would take this song to an entirely new emotional level ~ even deeper and more meaningful perhaps than he could have done backstage that day in 2007.
