Reason 7 – Nifty Shades of Byung Hee
As he takes the hoodie wear to a level of its own (his own), so too does Byung Hee make a statement with the sunglasses he wears often choosing a particular shape and style to suit the moment (or not), and always making them look good regardless of the occasion. His fine facial features serve him well affording him the ability to wear any shape, size or color. And although he may choose to wear them to help establish a sense of anonymity, I like to think he wears them to simply increase his already existing and overflowing cool quotient.^^ It seems to add some extra special swag to his persona when he does decide to rock the decorative shaded eyewear and gives me yet another reason to love him like I do.
Sunglasses (or shades, as I may refer to them here in this post) are not a modern-day phenomenon. The ancient Inuit people of the Arctic who scientists believe migrated across Mongolia and Siberia by way of Japan or somewhere in Asia, and who eventually settled in North America as early as 6000 B.C., were pretty fashion forward in that they were probably the earliest people who wore some kind of protective eyewear. This is true. They actually wore flattened walrus ivory ‘glasses’ to block the harmful reflective rays of the sun.
Further history shows that Roman emperor Nero wore emeralds over his eyes while watching gladiator fights. But it was the Chinese judges of the 14th century who utilized sunglasses for something other than protecting their eyes from the sun’s harmful rays. They wore smoke-colored quartz lenses to conceal their eye expressions while in court so not to show emotion while hearing cases.
By the 1930’s, Ray Ban and its polarized lenses were officially born out of a need for pilots to wear some kind of protective lenses (aviators…how apropos!) to reduce the glare when looking at a plane’s instrument panel. And even though Foster Grant came into existence in 1929 and its first pair of sunglasses sold on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City in 1930, it wasn’t until the 1960’s when sunglasses really became a fashion statement where men and women alike discovered the allure of wearing these mysterious lenses irrespective of whether or not they would protect the eyes.
Alluring….yeah, I would use that adjective to describe G.O.
Byung Hee and sunglasses? Yes, it’s a nice fit. I am thinking he wears them for a little eye protection, a touch of anonymity, and a whole lot of fashion statement! I decided to break things down into five categories here, just to keep it somewhat organized. As you know, I am easily distracted by him and things can get out of control.^^
Airport/Travel Shades
Okay, sure, I will totally buy into the fact that may wear shades to protect his eyes or to add a little anonymity. Perhaps maybe even his busy and tiring schedule has left him with sleepy eyes and he just wants to hide behind them. Whatever the reason, I think he ultimately wears shades because he knows he looks good.
Since the press and fans will invariably be present at any given airport he travels through, with cameras circling his every step, far be from him to look anything less than good and stylish, right?! Then again, looking good comes natural to him. Adding the mystique of some well-tailored shades can easy segue him from simply looking good, to looking downright sexy in an instant.
Cap pulled way down low, dark shades in place, there is still no mistaking those beautiful lips and signature 5 o’clock shadow.
Yes, he makes this look good.
Flip the cap, those deep dark shades in place, and he displays such an easy and relaxed comfortable vibe. It is all so effortless for him. If you travel much, you know how grueling it can be sometimes. Byung Hee seems to have it down to a very chill science.
How about this tasselled beanie and square Ray Bans look? Inasmuch as sunglasses frame his eyes and rest on the bridge of his cute-as-a-button nose, they just have a way of accentuating his lips, too. Or maybe it is simply that he has perfect lips that accentuate themselves.^^
Non-tasselled beanie and a whole lot of gorgeousness.
Grey sweater, no beanie.
Or what about this cute island feel?
Fedorable, right?
Of course…..hoodied.
A Chrome Hearts beanie and a face mask – yes, I even find this attractive. Extremely attractive. But, I am weird like that.^^
Airport couture which includes Seung Ho and Cheondoong.^^
A personal fave airport look, the shaded up with glowing skin, black leather jacket ensemble.
Oh, and the sexy rings on those sexy hands (will save that discussion for another post).^^
Or here, goatee-ed and fedora-ed with a side of aviators……oh my!
Whether decked in designer wear or casual jeans and t-shirt, his sunglasses seem to accentuate his style and put the finishing touches on his ever-present fashion sense.
If I passed him in the airport, I would pause to drink in an extra look or two. I suppose having those sunglasses firmly in place would save me a hospital trip because direct eye contact with him would most assuredly be my undoing.^^
Performance Shades
I could be wrong, but I think may be the one in MBLAQ who has worn sunglasses during performances the most, and he has been doing it since debut.
Then in 2010, when he paired up with hip hop artist, Nassun, he again brought the shades along when he performed adding a touch of classy swag to the stage.
But it was during the MBLAQ Sexy Beat era where he truly had them firmly in place during most (if not all) performances. And oh how sexy sweet that was…..
Inasmuch as I love to see his eyes when he performs (he makes such steady eye contact with the camera the majority of the time), I absolutely loved the sunglasses he wore throughout the Sexy Beat comeback. Starting with the showcase.
I even loved the streak of purple through his hair. He just reeks of suavaciousness. No, that’s not a real word. I just made it up because sometimes I cannot find adequate adjectives to describe him.
Continuing through each performance as MBLAQ made their way through the Korean music shows serving up a healthy dose of sexy with the title track and, Smoky Girl, G.O kept the shades firmly in place.
He regaled us with a steady diet of varying styles of shades when he stepped out on the stage, all of which flattered and complimented him.
Endorsement/Model Shades
G.O and his MBLAQ brothers are no strangers to endorsement work. Likewise they all have done their fair share of modeling. Seems to come part and parcel once you explode on the Korean music scene. In my opinion endorsing sunglasses is cool. I am pretty sure he probably gets to keep the shades as part of the compensation package!
He was all kinds of handsome and sexy for the Paul Hueman campaign.
And, mysteriously demure with Epic.
Hey, I think this is actually a selca….so it may show up in that section as well. <kekekeke>
Add Joon and a headband and it gets all avant-garde in this one. I LOVE IT!
The money pose…bling!!
He needs more endorsements because the camera loves him!
Selca/Candid Shades
These are probably among my favorites because G.O has been mastering the selca since his Tykeys days (and probably well before). And candid, impromptu pictures have always been my favorite. Like I mentioned above, the camera loves him – especially his own camera!^^
*SWOOOOOOOOON*
*MORE SWOOOOOOOOON*
Oh that smile……!♥
The deep black on black here only highlights his luscious lips that much more!
Told ya….this one was worth repeating, right?
No words.
Photo-shopped bunny ears and Park Jung Min. Kyaaaa!
Sexy, swag and sweet, respectively.
With Park Bo Young. I LOVE this über casz & comfortable look on him. PERFECTION!
With his boieeeez in Peru! OmO! When he tweeted this I nearly passed out!
Miscellaneous Shades of Byung Hee
When I chose this reason, I thought it would be short and sweet…over 1400 words later, I am still yakking about this man and his sunglasses!! In any event, I will wrap it up here with some final shots of him and his lovely shaded eyewear.
Oh Tykeys…Tykeys…TYKEYS!!!
The shades, that shirt, this body…….oh my.
His style in shades runs the gamut of hot and sexy to adorably cute and all points in between.
He can’t help it, he just knows how to look good whether his eyes are covered or not! But for purposes of this post, I am going to go ahead and say that these nifty shades of Byung Hee are definitely on my list as one of the many reasons to love him.♥
