On 9 November 2013, G.O made his final appearance on Immortal Song 2 and sang Kim Jung Soo’s touching 내마음 당신 곁으로 [My Heart is With You]. I cannot tell if it is simply a matter of not catching my breath when I watch G.O sing these emotional ballads or if it is simply that I hold my breath for fear of losing grip of my own emotions hearing the heartache in his voice when he sings. I would think that by now, I would have the strength to withstand his attack on my senses but in truth, the more I listen to and watch him, the more defenseless I become.
It is exactly three years to the day when G.O took the stage that early November evening and even though he did not walk away with a win for his final appearance, he left his mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of watching him compete on the show. I am pretty sure he also gained new fans and most assuredly opened a few eyes to his quiet, humble and often over-looked talent.
Remarkably beautiful in his delivery, G.O once again sings a song with lyrics I am convinced hold depth and meaning to him on a personal level. I always think he has lived the lyrics and, even if he has not, he makes me believe he has. It is in the way in which he wraps his voice around the words, always with genuine emotion and conviction.
당신 때문에 외로운 내 마음
[My heart is lonely because of you]
모든 것이 다 지나가 버려도
[Even though everything is gone]
내 마음은 당신 곁으로
[My heart is with you]
The end of November 2013 was right around the time I was discovering G.O. I had not quite fallen, but I was well on my way to being fully captivated and captured. It has been three years and when I watch these IMS2 performances (or any past performance for that matter), I feel like I am discovering him for the first time all over again.
That is just the magic of G.O, I guess.
