Playful. Flirty. Engaging. Charming. These are just a few words I would use to describe G.O’s second visit to the Immortal Song 2 stage on July 2, 2011. It was 80’s pop singer Min Hae Kyung night and G.O stepped out on the stage in a gorgeous white tux and reminded me of what it might have been like to be in a NY supper club watching Frank Sinatra and his Rat Pack tear the place up with music, mischief and a whole lot of swag. I LOVE this performance!
G.O softly begins 사랑은이제그만 [Love is Enough] sotto voce ~ in a quiet voice. As this was only his second performance on Immortal Song 2, I felt he was still hiding a little bit in his shell, not hesitant, but cautious. Or, maybe the tender opening was exactly the avenue he wanted to take as little by little, as the song began to build, he too began to emerge and embrace all of the verve and vivacity of the song, his voice increasing in volume and strength.
G.O was all in and it was awesome. The playful dance moves doused with his special brand of adorable made the performance even more entertaining. G.O has an incredible warmth that is so inviting. He draws you in with each performance (more like each note) no matter how dark or light, happy or sad. He takes you on a journey. It is impossible to resist the urge to follow.
Pay particular attention towards the end of the song when his voice literally explodes out of him, and all are reminded of how powerful of an instrument he truly possesses.
I might get in trouble for saying this, but I am going to say it. G.O’s interpretation was better than the original. Or maybe I just prefer a male voice for this song. Or . . . perhaps I am just SO extremely biased, I have crossed over into the ‘my bias can sing anything you can and can sing it better’ land. I admit my reason could potentially be clouded by adoration.
Hehehehe….still, he knows I got his back!^^
Kidding aside, I actually did like how the song was arranged for his performance. And I have said this before (and probably often), G.O has the ability to settle himself into any genre of music. He can take a specific genre and all its particular attributes, study it, cook it in his own special G.O sauce, and then deliver something new, something fresh, and ultimately something that would appear to have been his all along.
