The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 530

With the revival of Seopyeonje coming next month, I cannot help but recall the excitement and thrill of seeing G.O on the musical stage. I often rewatch the many cams capturing those magical moments. From his opening number through the last notes that left his lips, each song G.O sang to bring Dong Ho’s story to the stage was a perfect Vocal Virtuosity moment. Each and every one of them. In one way or another, I know I have shared them all somewhere here either in this countdown series or other posts. Seopyeonje left its mark on me. Rather, G.O in Seopyeonje left its mark on me. I don’t mind going back to write about the show, his performance or the music over and over again. Today, I am placing the opening song Alive in the Vocal Virtuosity vault. When G.O was cast as one of three actors to portray the tragic and emotionally fragile Dong Ho in 서편제 [Seopyeonje], I was still clearing my own path towards him so I missed all of the excitement of hearing the news of his involvement in the musical. I can only imagine what it must have felt like when news of G.O returning to the musical stage broke. As I have mentioned before, Seopyeonje was my introduction to G.O so it holds special importance for me personally, but it was also a game-changer for him as a musical actor (whether he wants to believe that or not)! For today then, something simple. A look back at the moment when he introduced himself as one of the musical actors cast in the show.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 32

While it is true that the bulk of the story in Seopyeonje was dark and tragic, there was definitely one moment of levity in the musical where G.O’s Dong Ho overflowed with a playfulness that was matched only by the resplendence of his smile. It was a moment of reprieve for both G.O and the audience from the early scenes of anguish and left the impression that the future looked bright for his troubled pansori-turned rock star character.
