It is Day 256 of G.O’s service, and time is just breezing along. Today I feel like relaxing in The Retro Room with our gentle main vocal. Traveling back in time to some in-studio radio appearances and his quiet, smooth and gentle rendition of Brian McKnight’s One Last Cry.
As I patiently wait for G.O to complete his military service, I often think about in what direction he will take his music when he returns. While it is true that he can sing anything from any genre, there is something about G.O and R&B that just makes sense and specifically, the sub-genre of neo-soul. The moment I discovered the word neo-soul I immediately felt that word described the type of singer G.O was at his core. Perhaps it is because he has chosen many western neo-soul singers to cover, Brian McKnight, one of them.
G.O’s falsetto is always so very sweet, isn’t it? True. Yet, I will always remain a huge fan of his lower range where his tone is so genuinely soothing. Here, I love that his improvs and runs most assuredly come from the flow of thought and emotion the song is communicating to him so that even when there are no lyrics, he is still compelled to sing. And, then there are the lyrics . . .
My shattered dreams and broken heart
Are mending on the shelf

Standing close to someone else
Now I sit all alone

Why is it that when I hear these words I feel as if G.O could have very well written them himself? I think lyrics like these resonate with him because he has lived them. I have always felt G.O writes about what he feels, and even more . . . of what he has lived.

He always blows me away… but especially when he sings in English.
Pure magic…always, in any language. But yes……when he sings in English, it is extra special for us English-speaking fans. I love when he covers English songs but I also absolutely love when he throws English phrases in the songs he writes. I always feel as if it is his way of letting us know that he is aware of us and knows we are out here supporting him.^^
