The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 224

Every moment that G.O shared the stage with a co-star in any one of his three musicals constitutes (in my opinion) a heavenly collaboration. So far I have looked at his on stage collaboration with Jang Eun Ah in Seopyeonje and recently, an off-stage moment with Go Young Bin sharing a song from 바람의나라 [The Kingdom of the Winds]. Likewise, in Gwanghwamun Sonata G.O shared collaborative moments with his co-stars, and this playful scene with Yoon Hyung Ryeol is one of my favorites.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 221

For Day 221 of G.O’s service, the One Shot offering will be fan art. This is special fan art because it was a gift I received from my friend Marisol who is an extremely gifted and talented artist. She has given me more than one piece of G.O art and all are equally beautiful. I will start with this lovely take on G.O’s character Hyun Woo from the musical, Gwanghwamun Sonata.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 213

My last Heavenly Collaboration post on Day 199 featured G.O’s vocal partnership with his Seopyeonje co-star Jang Eun Ah. I must have G.O’s musicals on the brain because I decided that his collaboration (on the 바람의나라 musical stage) with Go Young Bin was equally as heavenly. For this post, I am revisiting KBSLife’s Bookmark Culture show where, back in May 2014, the two talented musical actors sat down to talk about their work together on the musical stage. They also performed a song from 바람의나라, and that is my focus for this post.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 184

I think about 바람의나라 [The Kingdom of the Winds] often. I think about G.O ‘s incredible performance in the short and powerful run the show had back in May 2014.  I think about how important the role of Prince Ho Dong was for him and in many ways, how it most likely helped pave the way for other potential idol-turned-musical actors to be cast in a Seoul Arts Group production. I think about it all with incredible awe and fondness. And, I think about how special each curtain call must have felt for G.O when he stood upon the CJ Towol Theatre stage being appreciated for his courageous and tender performance.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 153

Not a single day has passed since April 2014 when I have not thought at least once (and often more) about G.O and the musical Seopyeonje. Both he and the musical left an indelible and deep impression on me. I often long to go back to those moments when I was sitting at the Universal Arts Center Theatre waiting for the curtain to rise, waiting for G.O to take the stage. Waiting to be moved by the achingly tragic story about Song Hwa and her brother, Dong Ho.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 129

Part of idol culture is to periodically make appearances at award shows, movie or television drama premiers, press conferences and the occasional product or service launch party. So in addition to being able to see your bias on the stage or listen to him  (or her) via the magic of digital recording, seeing them out and about at various events gives a added boost of excitement, and usually some pictures and potentially some video footage.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 123

Lately I have been thinking a lot about G.O’s three musicals. All three were unique and different, all three were held in great esteem by theater-goers, fans and critics, and all three proved that G.O had a natural affinity towards musical theater. I cannot help but wonder what he was feeling taking his very first curtain call bows following his wonderful performance as Kang Hyun Woo in the politically charged jukebox musical, Gwanghwamun Sonata.
