The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 270

I have often written here repeatedly that I firmly believe that when G.O chooses a song to cover, it will be a song that resonates with him or holds special meaning. I myself have pondered often as to what it was in a song that captures him. Is it the melody? Is it the lyrics? A little of both? On his birthday this past 6 November, he opened a chatroom in MBLAQ’s Daum Cafe and answered that question.

Love, Laughter and Seung Ho In The Rain ~ The Musical Sabita

Having now successfully conquered some pretty serious and lingering jet lag following my return from Seoul late last month, I am finally coherent enough to set my thoughts down about the musical 사랑은비를타고 [Love Is In The Rain], or as it is affectionately known in the Korean musical theater world, 사비타 [Sabita]. Since I attended the musical with the express intention of seeing MBLAQ’s leader Yang Seung Ho in his role as Dong Hyun, the focus primarily will be on his performance, but admit that I will include thoughts overall on his cast mates and the show overall. Additionally, I am including some fan account material to expose confirm Seung Ho’s incredibly sweet fan service. Yes, MBLAQ’s quietly charismatic leader is more endearing than he leads us to believe, a hundred fold more talented than he is given credit for and yes, more handsome in person than any picture can live up to. For this post, I have taken off my G.O-tinted bias glasses to give Seung Ho my undivided attention and in return, he pleasantly surprised me.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 263

Happy 30th Birthday Byung Hee!! It is Day 263 of G.O’s service with 468 days remaining! This will be one of two birthdays he will celebrate while serving his country. For today, I want to keep it very short and simple. The first time I saw G.O was when he was starring in Seopyeonje, hence my choice for picture for today. And, the first time I celebrated his birthday was in November 2014. Since then, I think I have been celebrating him daily. My message for dear sweet Byung Hee today is simply this: The 30 candles lit on your birthday cake today will never shine as bright and as incandescently as you do in every way….every day!

Happy Birthday Beautiful Music Man ~ 사랑해요!

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 224

Every moment that G.O shared the stage with a co-star in any one of his three musicals constitutes (in my opinion) a heavenly collaboration. So far I have looked at his on stage collaboration with Jang Eun Ah in Seopyeonje and recently, an off-stage moment with Go Young Bin sharing a song from 바람의나라 [The Kingdom of the Winds]. Likewise, in Gwanghwamun Sonata G.O shared collaborative moments with his co-stars, and this playful scene with Yoon Hyung Ryeol is one of my favorites.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 219

Light can be defined without sun.
Sweetness can be defined without honey.
Fragrance can be defined without a rose, but beauty cannot be defined without you.

At the close of 2013, I was well on my journey into falling deeply under G.O’s spell. It was fortunate in that there was much to look forward to in the new year, specifically an MBLAQ comeback, complete with a Japanese single release as well as two starring roles for our up and coming musical actor, G.O. Before the release of Broken and subsequent promotions, and before G.O’s Korean musical theater debut in Seopyeonje, the men of MBLAQ took part in a WAPOP concert at the Dome Art Hall of the Seoul Children’s Grand Park. Too much beautiful on the stage that day. Too much.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 213

My last Heavenly Collaboration post on Day 199 featured G.O’s vocal partnership with his Seopyeonje co-star Jang Eun Ah. I must have G.O’s musicals on the brain because I decided that his collaboration (on the 바람의나라 musical stage) with Go Young Bin was equally as heavenly. For this post, I am revisiting KBSLife’s Bookmark Culture show where, back in May 2014, the two talented musical actors sat down to talk about their work together on the musical stage. They also performed a song from 바람의나라, and that is my focus for this post.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 199

In all of his many collaborations, I certainly could never exclude G.O’s work opposite his co-stars in his musicals. On 26 March 2014, there was a press call held for the musical 서편제 [Seopyeonje] and the touchingl  다른 소리 [A Different Voice] sung by Jang Eun Ah and G.O’s was beautifully captured and is, in every way, a heavenly collaboration.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 184

I think about 바람의나라 [The Kingdom of the Winds] often. I think about G.O ‘s incredible performance in the short and powerful run the show had back in May 2014.  I think about how important the role of Prince Ho Dong was for him and in many ways, how it most likely helped pave the way for other potential idol-turned-musical actors to be cast in a Seoul Arts Group production. I think about it all with incredible awe and fondness. And, I think about how special each curtain call must have felt for G.O when he stood upon the CJ Towol Theatre stage being appreciated for his courageous and tender performance.

The Soulful Countdown to G.O’s Discharge ~ Day 153

Not a single day has passed since April 2014 when I have not thought at least once (and often more) about G.O and the musical Seopyeonje. Both he and the musical left an indelible and deep impression on me. I often long to go back to those moments when I was sitting at the Universal Arts Center Theatre waiting for the curtain to rise, waiting for G.O to take the stage. Waiting to be moved by the achingly tragic story about Song Hwa and her brother, Dong Ho.
