We have reached another milestone in the Waiting For Donghun countdown and, in this instance, a rather auspicious day for both A.C.E and Choice. It is Day 243 but today also marks A.C.E’s fifth anniversary. We celebrate with joy, but do so somberly as four of our amazing five are currently on hiatus serving their country. For some reason, it feels right to celebrate with the artistic and moving Jindo Arirang (Prehistory). If you are even a fraction of the history nerd I am, you are no doubt fascinated by A.C.E’s take on this much revered and historically rich and moving Korean folk song.
Today we are going to travel back to that in between time from Superstar K5 and Donghun’s debut with A.C.E. After his stint as a contestant on Superstar K5, Donghun signed with CJ E&M and became a trainee. That is where he met Jun and Wow. It is also where he met fellow trainee, Kim Minjae. Before he was an actor, Minjae was pretty much in idol training along with Donghun, Jun and Wow. That meant singing, rapping and dancing. Even before Donghun hit the busking circuit with his A.C.E brothers, he hit the streets in dance crew mode with his fellow trainees and there is video proof to back that up.
It’s time for a little Day In The Life with Donghun. Today, I will take a clip from his May 19, 2019 Vlog when he spent some time with Wow. It is the little bits of conversation and comments that make these vlogs so incredibly enjoyable to me. I don’t know if it is intentional for Donghun, and the rest of A.C.E for that matter, to show us how relatable they really are and that, even though they are artists and idols, their day to day lives (when not idol-ing) are really no different than yours or mine. I mean . . . Donghun takes a subway train to meet up with Wow. You cannot get more relatable than that, right? Come check out the clip, it’s really chill and cute.
If you were just getting to know A.C.E and asked Choice who the main dancer or dancers are in A.C.E, odds are they would most likely say Wow and Byeongkwan. They are, after all, the group’s named main dancers. But if you asked me, I would say all five. Just because he does not carry the title main does not exclude the fact that Mr. Lee can cut a rug. It is easy for me to sing praises about Donghun’s vocal prowess. It’s a given that the man can sing. However, it is also a given that the man can dance. And when you put him side-by-side with one of the group’s mains, Donghun proves he is just as main as the main!
